Eating for Autumn!

This afternoon, I went and harrassed Clive in Much Ado to find out what they have for us with this chilly month of unsettled weather.

So what do you fancy?

Soup: Borsht - that's beetroot in case you didn't know. To be eaten hot or chilled with sour cream and chives.

With some potato bread, perhaps for a light weekend lunch?

Fish: Fresh from Billingsgate. I think I spotted squid salad. I saw monkfish kebabs. And Clive has made your life particularly easy by deboning and s… Continue

Photography Group and Photograhpy Competition

It's time we had a photography group in Olney100! Moz, Richard, would you be willing to form the group and moderate it.

We have quite a few professional photographers in Olney and a photography club. You might also be interested in the USD25 000 competition being held by BLURB.

As far as I can see, BLURB is like MOO. You download your own photographs to their servers. MOO prints your business cards for you with as many (as few) as one photograph for 1… Continue

I'll be in on Monday but am away filming on Tuesday (possibly) and Wednesday certainly. Everything is done by appointment due to us all being out on projects quite often and also working unusual hours at the office. We're quite often in after standard working hours. Anyway give me a ring on Monday to arrange as we'll need Barney from the studio to be here if you want a look around there. My mobile is 07879 414110.

Also, as you may know, I write a column for the Phone Box each month. I've swerved into politics a bit recently as it's such an easy subject to make fun of. (MP's write the scripts really, we just report them, take an angle, and heyho comedy gold! It's too easy.) I wonder if there are local issues that could be taken up. I'm wondering why the Emberton Bypass is closed. I thought it was going to be re-opened. Anyone know why they closed it, apart from to make people pay to take cars into the park. I was told that it was due to crime (car robbery) but that doesn't quite tally up. One can't just close public roads due to crime, otherwise half af South London would be off limits for vehicles. Anyone got the low down on this?

Hi Jo
the recording studio is in the offices of MK Theatre Of Comedy in Clickers Yard, off Yardley Road. To have a look at it, go to www.superphonix.com
Give me a ring on 01234 241357 to arrange to come and have a look if you're interested. Have a coffee with us. There is quite a bit run out of the Clickers Yard office as I produce quite a few London comedy shows, as well as some productions we put on locally, including the recent 'Ripping Yarns' production by Michael Palin and Terry Jones, Which I think my collegue David Lovesy (also a member of Olney100) put on this site.
We have a stage hire service, represent many after dinner speakers, have a costume department, and are about to set up a small stable of actors to represent directly from here.
We are currently putting everything under the banner of Clickers Yard Creative on a new web site, so that people can see easily all the area's we're involved in, as there is quite a bit. David Lovesy and Paul Kitchen are dealing with that and it should be excellent.
Oh and of course we represent the Bolivian Sunshine Dogs, the local comedy jazz band (www.boliviansunshinedogs.co.uk) and I shall be resurrecting my comedy magic act for Fat Larry's comedy night at The Bull here in Olney, on the 20th Aug (next Thursday). Plenty on as always,
Cheers
David

Thanks for the welcome. Glad to chat to you. Lots of people have said 'you've got to talk to Jo' and this seemed a good way (as well as a chance to tap another part of Olney life). You'll see on Olneyonline.com there's a reference to olney100 (essential info) so perhaps you'd let me know if it is ok!
Co-operation will be good. Anything for the Big Olney Food Festival which I'm working on with the chamber of Trade as a way to promote Olney (and of course the sites) on 19th September, will be great. You've probably got stuff on this anyway, but I hope it will be a good day out and a celebration of Olney food.
Feeback on the sites will be most welcome too. They will never be finished but it was right to go live and just keep building and adding, which I am sure you've done here. As for olney100, I have found it easy to join, navigate around and it is a good way to talk about something new.
Look forward to more chats, Sophia

OK, a bit more about me! Ian (a Prof at Cranfield) and I moved into Lime St in Olney in February, actually on the day of the pancake race, which we didn't realise, but the police were very good about letting our moving lorry through the barriers. We moved here from Derbyshire, so we are missing the hills slightly. We have 2 sons, one in San Francisco and one in Albania, so Skype is heavily used in our household, we get brilliant 3-way conference calls if we get the time zones right.

We now live in Lime House (where Carol and Roger Whysall were), a delightfully quirky house, made up of 2 cottages and some stores. If any one knows anything about the house, the street, and their history, I would love to know. Why is it called Lime St? Because of the Lime trees along it? We have heard stories about cars going along the street and hitting the walls, and it is sensible that it is now one-way, though people still drive along hooting their horns!

regards to all
Gay

Jo, hi! I am a local resident and am currently working with the Chamber of Trade to organise Olney Health & Beauty week June 20th-27th. We need to get this publicised on here and I also wondered if you would like to be involved? We have all sorts of local businesses involved for the launch date on the 20th and for the following week. Can we speak?

All the best
