Apple's unveiling of its iPad has piqued the interest of British shoppers, according to retail price comparison service InvisibleHand. Q. Lloyds wrote to me in November, stating it was closing all my accounts. I have been with Lloyds for 12 years, have a overdraft facility, always been in credit and always had £5,000 to £17,000 in savings with them. I called the closure unit who said they were within their rights and did not have to provide a reason. I have spoken to several Lloyds' managers, who said they could not intervene.

There's something quite reassuring to read that hard man Jack Bauer has become a victim of a Ponzi scheme. Actually, it's not Jack who's been caught out but Kiefer Sutherland, the actor who plays him in the hit television show 24. He was persuaded to hand over $869,000 – around £540,000 – to a steer-roping promoter for a lucrative cattle deal which was set to net the actor a handsome quick profit. But the cattle never appeared and the cash vanished.
