David Gray - Draw The Line

Pop/Rock - Multi-platinum UK singer/songwriter David Gray marks the tenth anniversary of his enormous breakout album White Ladder with the release of Draw The Line, his first album of original studio recordings since 2005's A Life In Slow Motion. Led by the massive international hit single "Babylon", White Ladder proved to be a landmark album, not only for Gray - who had already released three albums at that time - but for the adult pop genre. Marrying electronics to acoustic songs was not really new, but rarely had planets aligned quite like they did for Gray. White Ladder was an album, it seemed, for everyone -- from hardened hipster critic to the most casual listener. Gray has gone on to sell more than 12 million albums worldwide -- half of which have been from Ladder.

New self-produced Draw The Line includes the focus track "Fugitive" (watch the "making of" video after the jump) along with a pair of notable duets with Annie Lennox and Jolie Holland. "Full Steam Ahead" Gray says was "absolutely transformed" by Lennox's powerhouse vocals on the track -- one example of what he observes was the need for "new blood and new ideas" on the new project. "I really wanted to get away from that lo-fi bedroom, programming, Midi side of things," Gray reflects. "I really wanted to experiment, so a lot of the songs came out of playing as a band or messing around with sounds. A lot of them were just written in the standard way of me sitting at the piano or whatever. But it became far more about playing, and we realised this was our strong point, we can actually play!”
