Sarah Siskind - Say It Louder
Pop/Folk - Described as "utterly captivating" by Performing Songwriter, Nashville-based Sarah Siskind has already made inroads as an accomplished writer, penning two songs for Alison Krauss (one a Grammy nominee) and another made for indie-folkster and Siskind touring buddy Bon Iver. Over the course of five albums, she's also won over critics and fans with a startlingly original style that draws from her Appalachian background as well as a modern rock and blues slant to the occasional country twang. There's an appealing honesty to her work, proud of her roots but with an adventurous and confident look towards new sounds, unexplored directions.
New album Say It Louder, arriving May 26, is a sublime and winning collection of 13 songs that range from personal, confessional ballads to folksy shuffles to the gorgeous, ringing title track -- all anchored by Siskind's quietly commanding sit-up-and-take-notice vocals. Noted Nashville guitarist Joe McMahon's haunting, atmospheric shadings, added to Siskind's own solid playing, bring a wide-screen and multi-textured landscape to the project.
“It’s probably the most focused album I’ve ever made, as far as all the songs really tying together,” Siskind observes. “There is a real sense of rebirth. Each song is a different little corner of my life, of what I’ve been through in the last several years.” Paste opines that Siskind is "prodigiously talented with elegant, deeply felt songs," by Paste. We would certainly agree -- and recommend Say It Louder highly.
