White Rabbits - It's Frightening
Rock/Pop - Much buzzed, boisterous Brooklyn dance/rock combo White Rabbits return with their sophomore album It's Frightening, the follow up to their lauded 2007 debut Fort Nightly. They may be seen as the flavor of the month based on the music hipster and shrieking female response to their recent live shows, but it's a tasty flavor nonetheless. Piles of jittery rhythms skirt underneath jarring guitar riffs, pounding piano and some caffeinated bass lines for a sound that seems made for scratchy 45 played loud in your parents' sweaty basement. The melodies are simple and direct while the vocals can't decide whether to be sung or shouted - in sum, songs tug on your sleeve and then grab you by the neck (in a friendly way, thankfully).
"Nearly embarrassing levels of enthusiasm, sincerity, and energy" said the Village Voice of Fort Nightly with The Onion A.V. Club raving about a "debut as fully formed and self-assured as any likely to be heard this year.' Spoon collaborator Britt Daniel is at the production helm for the somewhat darker, more menacing It's Frightening, an album SPIN says are filled with "dirty boogies fueled by uppers then washed down with whiskey."
