Bat for Lashes - Two Suns
Pop/Rock - Ethereal Brit creative force Natasha Khan (AKA Bat for Lashes) finds the artistic mid-point between the more progressive 80's pop of Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush and The Cure and adds her own Bjork/Cat Power-ful spin for an inspired work of ghostly, graceful and other-worldly vision. Atmospheric to the point where you begin to imagine vapor trails floating by as you listen, the vast, exotic spaciousness of her second album Two Suns set the grand stage for an album of intimacy redefined for the wide screen.
Khan, her vocals an odd mix of fragility and dramatic power, incorporates a percussive foundation of beats and lush electronics and then lets her voice float airily above, darting and weaving through gorgeous melodic lines. Two Suns, says Khan, reflects her goal of "encompassing two landscapes, the city and the desert", a mindset made even more apparent in her EPK video (watch after the jump) filmed at the Joshua Tree National Park. Like the most rewarding albums, Suns approaches the pop music medium as a variety of canvases poised for bold, artistic statements and visionary attitude. Refreshing -- and recommended.
