Angus and Julia Stone - A Book Like This

http://www.nettwerk.com/images/cover/AngJu.ABo5111.jpgPop/Folk - Unassuming and utterly charming, Aussie sibling duo Angus and Julia Stone bring two unique and distinctive voices to their quietly striking debut album A Book Like This. Already a platinum seller Down Under, their meticulous crafted Book presents each song as one page within a larger context, with a story and style unto its own. It helps when you've been raised on a diet of The Beatles and Van Morrison -- it also doesn't hurt that both Angus and Julia are gifted and compelling songwriters on their own - a quality that initially had the pair touring together but performing separately. Gentle pop melodies meet acoustic strummed folk backing for an album that UNCUT calls "a triumph of intimacy."

Their live shows also have that exceptionally personal feel to them with FLY noting that “Angus and Julia don’t so much seize the room as gently envelope it in a warm shawled embrace." Julia's waif-like vocals, just to this side of Joanna Newsome, add to her more from-the-heart, emotional projections on songs such as the pensive "Here We Go Again" or wistful "Hollywood." Angus' more gripping, dispassionate observations on the world - "The Beast" or "Silver Coin" - are well-suited to a boyish voice that recalls Nick Drake or the folkier elements of Damien Rice.

From their bio:

In truth, their allure shouldn’t come as a surprise, as they are really the embodiment of everything good and natural about the essence of honest music. After all, anyone who has ever experienced the breathless elation or the heartbreaking pain of love cannot fail to be engaged by the enchanting stories told by Angus and Julia Stone.
