Pop - On the aptly titled The Blue Depths, Bloomington-via-Berkeley duo Odawas submerge their cinematic poptronica in a sea of strings and synthesizers, with soft waves of of reverb diffusing Michael Tapscott's vocals and erasing the edges of the steady drum machine pulse, but never drowning out its warm beating heart. The result sounds like a cross between Vangelis's Blade Runner soundtrack and The Blue Nile's indespensible LP Hats, an album suitable for rainy city nights and sunny beaches alike.
