Mark Louris and Gary Olson - Ready for the Flood

Country - In the years since Mark Olson left The Jayhawks, co-founder Gary Louris has steered more towards the "alt" in the "alt country" epithet that's been used to describe their sound, but on ...The Flood the old 'Hawks return to their rusty roost. Black Crowe Chris Robinson's production is appropriately gritty without affectation, and "Harmonies are raw and unpredictable in the Bob Dylan tradition." (Spin) Fuzzy guitar rock-outs are reminiscent of The Jayhawk's breakthrough Hollywood Town Hall, but the best songs are the accoustic numbers that put Louris and Olson's shadowboxing vocals front and center, "letting the scruffy melodies and jigsaw-puzzle interlocking of these stellar voices do the heavy lifting."
