Mike Landfair

Mike Landfair is the "unpaid and untitled warehouseman, deluxer and marketing guru" for his wife's business, Landfair Furniture + Design Gallery, a role he assumed following his retirement from a career as a stockbroker. He posts to two blogs, movermike.com and landfairfurniture.blogspot.com, the latter of which he launched in 2005 to boost business at the store. The Landfair Furniture blog's success in serving the local interior design community and retail public has been written up on numerous business blogs, in the Portland Business Journal, and as a success case for a blogging study conducted last year by Northeastern University and Backbone Media. Landfair has a BS in political science and economics, is an avid reader, enjoys writing poetry, and finds abundance, health and joy in the world around him.

Once more I'm seeing "serendipity" at work!
Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally discovers something fortunate, especially while looking for something else entirely unrelated.
Yesterday, my copy of International Living (IL) arrived in the maiil, and for the first time, I actually sat down and read all the articles.  One that caught my eye was by Roger L. Gee titled "Import-Export--Buy For $2, Sell For $12."  It describes...Read More

HID Labs' SmartPods

July 21, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0)

Several weeks ago I read about a new lighting system that was more energy efficient than that currently available.  The administration's goal is for the U.S.  to become more energy efficient and energy independent and HID Labs, Lighting Solutions forthe Planet, has a new approach.  I wondered at the time if Landfair Furniture could benefit either on the floor or in the receiving area.  I wondered if furniture and accessory manufacturers here could use HID's technology to save money on their utility bills. Len Scaffidi, Sr. Client Executive, at ToolingU.com and I have had a great discussion over at Linked In about CIT Group (CIT) and the arrangement worked out with creditors to avoid bankruptcy.

With the news today that the bailouts so far, will saddle all of us with another $24 Trillion in debt on top of the $11.5 Trillion we already owe, I invite you to join the discussion.  Is this the road we want to continue down?  Is there a better way?

Thoughts?  You can comment directly, email me at landfair3554@comcast.net or follow me @landfairfurnitu.

I'm Addicted To Gadgets And Thingamabobs! Part 2

July 20, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0)

Last month I posted about gadgets, I'm Addicted To Gadgets And Thingamabobs! Some of the neat things in that post were Candles that doubled as a chalkboard and a corn peeler that cuts the kernels off an ear of car so it's ready for Bobbie Flay's charred corn salsa.

I am overwhelmed now with a post by Mikael Svardh's at fosfor titled Top 10 coolest light gadgets

How's this first one: a LED in your shower head that by it's color tells you the temperature; blue for cool or cold, red for warm or hot. Imagine. no more opening the shower door risking water on the floor and testing the water temperature with your hand which you then have to dry off with a towel.  No more jumping into the shower risking skin on...Read More
