I've been intrigued by these colorful "slices" from zigzign by Lene Frantzen since spotting them a few years back at ICFF. Handmade of 100% virgin wool in Denmark, each design is rolled up and subsequently sliced -- thus resembling the rings of a tree-trunk (albeit a fantastical one).
What's even more unique is that each piece is art but also is supremely functional even down to the mundane. For example, the table slice is one of the edgiest hot pads I've ever seen. Modern, but incredibly durable.
Here, the three newest additions to the slice universe. Think I'll take mine to go.
It’s gorgeous little things like this that make me happy. This teacup is from a series of tabletop pieces called Winter Trees and Summer Trees from the collaborative efforts of ceramicists Ann Linnemann and Paul Scott. The porcelain is hand thrown and glazed by Linnemann in her studio in Copenhagen, while Scott creates the images on ceramic decals in his studio in Blencogo, England. They share in the final finishing process which includes applying the ...Read More
Branching Bubble chandelier is from designer Lindsey Adelman and is manufactured to spec in her Brooklyn, NY studio. I love the wild nature of the blown glass juxtaposed with the molecular styling of the armature. It all looks very random – of course it’s not – Adelman shows her mastery of materials here, creating a chandelier that looks less manufactured and more the product of natural forces. And in a way, it is.
Pheromone: The Insect Artwork of Christopher Marley, published by
Pomegranate Communications, brings rare specimens to life in intense,
jewel-like formations. Magnified in an oversized, elegant format, the
stunningly photographed book provides an eye-popping entree into the bug world.
Marley's early fear of bugs eventually turned to fascination, leading him to travel the
world in search of exotic specimens for his art. Both arresting and vibrant at
once, the colors in Pheromone are entirely natural and do not rely on color
enhancement, digital replication or other computer techniques. ...Read More
My idea of the perfect house? Modern. Minimal. And on the water. This jewel of a summer home is located on a small island in Sweden and was designed by WRB (Arkitekstudio Widjedal Racki Bergerhoff) of Stockholm. Scandanavia’s a bit too chilly for my taste, but it could just as easily be located on some stunning tidal marsh in the South Carolina Lowcountry -- nothing would be finer.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the first manned moon landing, Louis Vuitton created the Malle Mars trunk. Designed with a trip to Mars in mind, the slightly menacing looking carry-all opens to reveal all manner of cleverness. It’s a custom order from LV, and I bet it costs about the same as Apollo 11.
The new Amy Butler for Chandra rug collection immediately stands out for two reasons: An exquisite use of color and lavish profusion of botanicals. In addition, it's fresh, fun and feels very enchanted garden.
Butler, a fabric, print and fashion designer, romances nature with a modern edge by entwining floral and geometric motifs in bold style. Hand-tufted and handmade of 100% New Zealand wool, the collection features 13 initial designs including the fiery, passionate Caracas (above) and the vintage-influenced Coventry.

These beautiful handmade art glass vases are by Czech designer Petra Kucerova. The surface decoration is created by alternately staining and sandblasting the designs into glass. Kucerova and her partner, painter Jiri Kucera, work under the name Studio Cave Canem (beware the dog) in Benesov, Czech Republic.
I love the look of Emdee's decadently earthy pillows which combine luxe linen with the right pop of bling -- such as the abstract, sensual wave imagery created by flowing rows of sequins. The new collection shimmers with crystals and sequins applied in fluid, modern shapes to neutral-hued linen. Unexpected? Perhaps, but devastatingly chic all the same.
These sweet beasts fit perfectly into our ‘Green Acres’ trend: Part of a new collection from Art Imaage that debuted at the Atlanta Market this month, the paintings and giclees are the work of artist Sue Moffi...Read More
