Bev Perdue was born January 14, 1947, in Virginia, and has lived most of her adult life in New Bern, North Carolina. Perdue has a Ph.D. in Education Administration. Before running for office, she worked as a public school teacher and as director of geriatric services at a community hospital. She served in the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1987 to 1990 and in the North Carolina Senate from 1991 to 2000, where she served as appropriations chair. In 2000, she became the first woman elected lieutenant governor in North Carolina. During her time as lieutenant governor, she also chaired the state's Health and Wellness Trust Fund. Perdue is married to Bob Eaves and she is the proud mother of two sons, Garrett and his wife April and Emmett. Bob is the proud father of Charlotte and her husband Doug, and Robert and his wife Michelle. They have five grandchildren and share their home with two dogs. |
