Every language has got its own comic charm. Similarly Marathi, as a language, is rich of wonderful comic literature as well as audio visual entertainment. Some famous personalities like Pu La Despande, Acharya Atre, have played a significant role in the evolution of humourous Marathi literature. On screen performances of Dada Konke, Laxmikant Berde, Ashok Saraf have been making the whole of Maharashtra laugh their lungs out over the past few years. This legacy is carried forward by well known comedians like Bharat Jadhav, Nirmitee Sawant, Makrand Anaspure - just to name a few.

Now Zee Marathi has taken a step forward to dig out the comic talent in Maharashtra by launching a Comedy Talent hunt show called "Hasya Samrat". Hasya Samrat is an attempt to boost the confidence of hidden comedians in the inner parts of Maharashtra by giving them a platform through which they can reveal their talent in front of the entire state of Maharashtra.

Just to add flavour to the entire concept, this show will be anchored by one of the talented comedians in the Marathi Entertainment industry, none other than Jitendra Joshi. Jitendra is a perfect fit for the show, as he as great knowledge about Marathi literature and cinema. Comedy is not his forte and he is not a comedian in real life, but this itself helps him become a great comedian in reel life. Jim Carrey is his idol. At the same time he follows Charlie Chaplin as a devotee. He feels that his comedy has been sculptured by great personalities like Santosh Mayekar, Shreerang Godbole, Arun Nalawade and Sanjay Mone. Comedies played by Raja Gosavi, Dada Konke, stars of the past, as well as those performed by Bharat Jadhav, Satish Tare, Sumeet Raghavan are very close to his heart.

To give justice to these young talents, we will have 2 celebrated juries with us - Ashok Naygaonkar and Makrand Anaspure. Mr Naigaonkar is a comic poet with a unique sense of humour and Mr. Makrand Anaspure is a star of Marathi comedy movies. Ashok Naigaonkar is a personality with international presence, he rules millions of hearts through his unique style of comic poetry as well as short stories. He is also a guest writer for a Marathi daily, Loksatta.

Young talent with an exceptional diction and dialogue delivery skills - a hardcore comedian - straight from a small town in Maharashtra known as Beed. Guess who?? Makrand Anaspure. One memory which is close to his heart, which he always mentions as an honour is that during his college days Nana Patekar picked him on his shoulders in front of the entire audience as a reward for his amazing performance in a state level drama competition. Makrand believes that Dada Konke and Laxmikant Berde are the two undisputed kings of marathi comedy and inspires to be like them.
