The Love Willows
Pop/Rock - Describing their music simply as "happy music", Atlanta duo The Love Willows - singer Hope Partlow and guitarist/vocalist Ryan Wilson - inject a healthy shot of brightly colored (literally and figuratively) energy into their spunky debut album "Hey Hey", arriving this spring via Decca.
Unpretentious, sharply-etched, high-energy pop songs that tap into everything from Gwen Stefani vocal prowess to Beach Boy harmonies and big, classic-styled hook-laden melodies, The Love Willows manage to rise above the mindless beat-driven modern pop fray with some subtle sophistication and an undeniable love for the highly polished mainstream fare that's all about the sheer pleasure of a three minute pop/rock anthem. “It’s all about fetishes, love and hate,” says Partlow. “It’s a product of what we’ve gone through as a couple, the battles and the glories, everything that’s happened in the past few years.”
In many respects, "Hey Hey" is an something of an old-fashioned album, filled with the kind of punchy, relentlessly upbeat and purely melodic pop tracks that dominated 80's radio and early MTV. Lead track "Falling Faster" reflects the eye-popping sheen of the duo's self-written, engineered and produced debut: over a chiming bed of guitars and a hint of ska rhythms, Barlow's soaring vocals and layers of harmonies evoke the more innocent days when girls, and boys, just wanted to have fun. (05/29 - Decca)
