El mundo. (The World)

Cristi Jenkins, Access & Programs, Fort Vancouver Regional Library, WA -- Críticas, 11/1/2008

Corr, Christopher.
narrated by Javier Mendoza. illus. by author. Book and 1 CD. U.S.: Barefoot Books. 2008. 32p. ISBN 978-1-84686-208-3. $9.99.

PreS-2–Set to the tune of “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” this title focuses on the responsibility that human beings have in taking care of our planet. Full-spread acrylic illustrations accompany text and music. Abundant yellows, blues, and oranges fill pages that show children of different ethnic backgrounds playing, holding hands, and interacting with various plants and animals. A section at the end of the book explains how different life forms help to preserve a healthy ecosystem. A checklist suggesting ways for individuals to reduce global warming is also provided. The CD contains four tracks: a short introductory instrumental piece, the main song with vocals, a follow up instrumental accompaniment to enable listeners to sing on their own, and a short postlude. The pleasant melody uses guitars, flute, bongos, steel drums, and stringed instruments. The main track contains sound effects such as running water, birds, and children laughing. A great book and CD combo to help children understand the importance of conserving the planet. Recommended for bookstores, as well as public and school libraries.
