A HealthFirst Check-up

By Laura Knoy on Monday, December 21, 2009.

This fall New Hampshire rolled out a new wellness-focused health plan called HealthFirst, meant to reduce the cost of covering small businesses. Some health policy experts have said the plan is well designed, but enrollment so far is low and some business owners say it’s too expensive. We’ll look at how HealthFirst is doing so far.

Guests

  • Kathleen Sgambati, Democratic state senator from Tilton and chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee
  • Cindy Kibbe, reporter for the New Hampshire Business Review
  • Christopher Henchy, Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer for MVP Health Care, and former Vice President for MVP Health Care in New Hampshire

We'll also hear from

  • Roger Sevigny, New Hampshire Commissioner of Insurance
  • Russ Monbleau, self-employed independent insurance broker from Milford

HealthFirst health insruance

I currently have this coverage thru my employer and initially it sounded great with it's health incentives and seemed more affordable for us as a small group. It wasn't until after we signed on however that we were told that Concord Hospital was not included in the Tier 1 care facilities. This proposes a major inconvenience if hospital care is needed by any of us!! It is not a plan I would choose year!!!

Health First

This is the first I have heard of this program; how was it publicized? How does one find out about it?

Pay for Performance

My company has a solution for preventative health and wellness, and is also a measurement tool for health improvement and outcomes. It seems most insurance carriers 'pay for service' which directly contradicts the 'pay for performance' model, communication, and preventative services. Can you please direct me to any plans, resources, programs, or services that include wellness, behavior modification, prevention, and outcomes measurement, which actually are reimbursed by the carriers? Thanks.
