The Holiday Economy

As tough times continue, we look at how they might affect those sectors which rely on a strong holiday season, especially retail. While some people are buying more this year, others are resorting to bargain shopping, coupon clipping and homemade gifts. We’ll find out what the trends are and look at another sector with high hopes for the holidays: travel and tourism.

Credit

Jon Greenberg asked for feedback about the availability of credit, and in the last six months we have taken out a used car loan and financed a major home renovation project. Although times are definitely tough, we are trying to take advantage of lower prices and some tax incentives. We're cautiously optimistic about our personal economic future and that of the region.

Retail prices

If you are fortunate and have a job, this year's bargains are incredible. Free shipping with great prices abounds for online sites. The big box retail stores offer great sales and many incentives one various days/hours.

We are spending less, being more selective and getting better gifts this year.
