La Roux singer Elly Jackson has claimed that the media often blows comments she makes out of proportion.
The 21-year-old admitted that she has learned to be wary about making negative remarks because they will be turned into a "shock" story.
"You really have to be careful in this industry," Jackson told andPOP.
"Obviously it's impossible for us to like everything. So when you can get asked your thoughts about something, and say we don't like or agree with something, it's like a total shock to the world."
The singer, who spent New Year in the Caribbean with her family, went on to claim that social networking sites have taken away some of the mystery surrounding an artist or band.
"Now its come to a point where someone can find virtually almost anything about artists, actors and celebrities," she said.
"But it's not alright, when it comes to a point where fans feel like they have a right to your personal information."
La Roux recently started work on the follow-up to their self-titled debut album, which has sold over 350,000 copies since its release in June.
