May Visits Evacuees At Charlotte Coliseum

Bobcats rookie Sean May just wants to do whatever he can to help.

On Tuesday, September 6, May spent most of his afternoon at the Charlotte Coliseum visiting with some of the few hundred evacuees that have been displaced from their homes by Hurricane Katrina.

May and members of his family brought essential supplies like T-shirts, socks, underwear and water, and books for children to the Coliseum. While there, May spent most of his time visiting with children and members of their families who all face the daunting task of starting over.

May arrived in Charlotte on Monday night, and as soon as he heard about the evacuees at the Coliseum, he wanted to do something to assist them as soon as he could.

"When I first heard about it, I talked to my dad about wanting to do something to help," May said. "I figured that going over there, giving my time and bringing some supplies that they need right now was the best thing I could do. I know I can't help everybody, but hopefully I can help a few people. I just am looking to help out in any way possible."

May acknowledges that neither he, nor any of us, will ever be able to do enough to help all of the victims of this terrible disaster, but he also realizes that anything that any of us are able to do in this time of need can make a difference.

"I know that people are going through tough times right now," May said. "This is a disaster for everyone here in America, and we have to do our part by by helping them out and helping them through this tough time. We all can't feel their pain. They've lost loved ones and everything they had, so we should all feel very fortunate to be in a position to help. I look at it as my responsibility to help."
