Modern Medal of Honor trailer looks like MW2

EA releases first gameplay footage
EA's released the first proper gameplay footage for its new Medal of Honor game... and it looks just a bit like Modern Warfare.

The revamp, which as we already knew takes place in war-torn Afghanistan, is being developed by EA Los Angeles and DICE for a 2010 release.

According to EA the development team at its LA studio have been "hand-selected" to deliver a "world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation." Meanwhile the Battlefield boys and girls at DICE will work on the multiplayer experience.

It's due out in autumn 2010. Competition for Modern Warfare? They've been working on it long enough...

really hope this is better than MW2.
Tobal on 13 Dec '09
I hope it's good and everything, but that it one of the most shameless rip-offs I have ever seen. Some of the levels even look identical to MW2.
darry on 13 Dec '09
Well, they say imitation is the best form of flattery, so yeah...

Looks like we'll get great action packed set-pieces, but hopefully they'll put a decent story in there too. MW2 had great set-pieces, but the story was all over the place and ruined it for me.

looks more detailed than MW2, i really hope its better because mw2 is such a let down in every department
bunneyo on 13 Dec '09
It does look similar to COD, but then, it would, wouldn't it? I mean, like Forza and GT are always going to look similar. However, it still clearly has its own graphical style, there's definately a subtle difference and perhaps a little Killzone look thrown in too?

Was I the only one who loved the chair boot? I thought it was hilarious but great at the same time.

shouldn't be hard,mw2 is not actually that good. i got to the part of the oil rig where you shoot down the helicopter, hit the checkpoint and never went back. it just didn't interest me in the same way 4 did.

i've spent more time on cod4:reflex's multiplayer.
ste hicky on 13 Dec '09
First off, I'd like to say that the new look favourMedal of Honour here. Also, does anyone else think that they're using the frostbite engine for this?
BIGAL-1992 on 13 Dec '09
How pathetic and pointless are the "looks like Modern Warfare" title and comments. Does anyone need reminding modern combat-style games have been around for years, and that Medal of Honor came before Call of Duty.

Anyway, I'm all but done with Modern Warfare 2, which having bought it late, and given up over a week ago has become extremely short lived. The lack of co-op and with over half the multiplayer maps unenjoyable to me, I really hope Medal of Honor delivers.

The one big key area for me though is that it runs at 60 frames a second on the 360. The graphics in the video (yet again had to go to another site to watch!!!!) are clearly for the PC, but I fear this game will end up trying to out-do the competition by delivering better graphics at a worse framerate.

I hope they keep the Medal of Honor: Airbourne cover system. That was by far the best implemented cover system in any shooter, bar none. Allowing you to slighly peer around corners really has made every other shooter that insists on you literally standing in the line of fire to take a shot seem extremely poor by comparison.
Jensonjet on 13 Dec '09
EA is a franchise game maker, it will never make a unique style of game. Now com'on, mw has been around for 2 years, and the second one has been successful, what EA wouldn't do to cash in some money and copy what other do. Not like it would break any records like MW2 anyway.

Yes finaly, someone with good taste Very Happy
Everyone is so wrapped up in MW2, but call of duty is only good for online, not like a true story led war shooter like Medal of honour, which is by far better than call of duty
MOH: Allied Assault and MOH: Frontlines are still 2 of my favourate war shooters, lets hope some good online play can make it even stronger Very Happy

Well, yeah, but this is more than just 'looking like a modern combat game', isn't it? The looking down the sights aiming, the airborne night-vision levels, the cut scene brutality, gunships and explosions... I mean, if they released this as a trailer for a MW2 DLC pack, no one would have had trouble believing it, would they? i don't think there is any denying this is a complete rip-off.

Still, that isn't necessarily a bad thing, hopefully it'll be great. Although, you have to say imitation may be the greatest form of flattery, but in this case I think EA are thinking it's the greatest form of salary.

Boom boom!

Sorry.
darry on 13 Dec '09
MW2 was good but way overhyped and have lost interest in the multiplayer quicker than i have with COD4 or WAW. it looks like EA/DICE have played a lot of MW2 from the looks of this trailer but lets hope that they make a good game out of it.
rigby2447 on 13 Dec '09
If everyone seems to dislike MW2 so much, I'm wondering why there's 4 times more people online on average, than on COD4 the same time last year? (PS3 this is.)

Maybe it's just a coincidence or something? Or, maybe, some of you are exaggerating?
lwill on 13 Dec '09
I like it sure its going to look like mw2 because its a modern day shooter I think MOH looks a bit more polished. I hope it trounces mw2 none the less. I was hugely let down with it.
gogo65uk on 13 Dec '09
That looks bloody fantastic, IMO! Who cares if it is reminiscent of "MW2" as long as it delivers tight controls, a well scripted story, at least twice as long a SP campaign than "MW2" and has dedicated server support? Besides, the WWII "CoD" franchise ripped off "MoH", so consider this payback. All is fair in love and war, eh?

Come on EA LA Studios and DICE! Deliver the game I was hoping "MW2" would be but wasn't! If you pull it off then this will be a day 1 purchase for me.

Aye, they are after all dealing with the same topic material: contemporary warfare. It's not like pulse rifles are magically going to appear (unless they know something that some of the world's leading weapons experts and soldiers don't).

As for the chair boot scene, that did make me chuckle all the while I felt sympathy for the poor schmuck they were unable to save.
The_KFD_Case on 13 Dec '09
Looks better than MW2. They've gone for a slightly more realistic feel to the graphics than MW2. Hopefully it's better than it also, MW2's multiplayer has been such a let down they added too much. Perks are unbalanced and don't get me started on the kill streaks. I dub is still king for the time being, until treyarch and EA release the big guns next year. Hears to hoping!
le_don on 13 Dec '09
loved cod5 multiplayer, at least only mp40 was overpowered in that game, and it wasnt hard destroying mp40 noobs.
in mw2, every single rifle is. you can snipe with a rifle, why use a sniper?
i-am-from-space on 13 Dec '09
if this was mw2 people wouldn't be complaining....
footieharry on 13 Dec '09
like someones already said, if we can have more control over the character with interactions like a cover system etc and have the charcter actually act like a soldier then this will be awesome, because the whole run and gun thing in mw2 espically is so f**kin boring and repetitive, i thought we were gona get something more than what we got in cod4 but we didn't! go more killzone2 than mw2 please EA!
bunneyo on 13 Dec '09
Hell it looks the same as mw2 but who cares thats a great game so hopefully this will be great too!
SuperBob5000 on 13 Dec '09
how can it LOOK like mw2.... they are set in essentially the same place/era of course they look similar

DUH
eastldn on 13 Dec '09
Well I think this looks pretty good from the trailer. Completely different story by the looks of it to COD and well I say good luck to them!
AJB123644 on 13 Dec '09
Maybe im blind I dont know but it doesnt look that similar to MW2. I mean ok its set in modern time so certain locales may look similar as will the weaponry but this looks like its set much more in the rough terrain of the middle east rather than in Russia or the Middle east sections of the first MW game.

Yep. Welcome to Afghanistan - also known as "the graveyard of empires". Both the British Empire and the Soviet Union initially experienced success with their invasions but eventually retreated after suffering grievous casualties. It should be noted that the Soviets might very well have succeeded if the local Afghan mujahideen fighters had not been supplied with US anti-air missiles which finally allowed them to put up a successful resistance to heavily armed and armored Soviet helicopters. Alexander the Great succeeded in conquering Afghanistan though his forces suffered grave losses as well. Whether he would have held on to the region in the long term is unknown as he died a few years later and his empire disintegrated amongst his warring generals. Time will tell if it will also bring the US and its NATO allies low.
The_KFD_Case on 13 Dec '09
We could say MW 1 and 2 both look alot like Delta Force Blackhawk down. but we don't. I think CVG just put this down to cause a bit of a stir.

First of im going to start by saying what a retard COUGHcoreCVG is.

And secondly, well I came into this article after reading the title and hoping to actually defend Medal of Honor and that's what im going to do to be honest.

It may look like Modern Warfare to many, however that is going to be a obvious thing when you come to think of how many years Infinity Ward have been tackling the visuals etc, When something is at the top of the category (first person shooter #1 game), and how many have seen/played Call of Duty, you will kind of know that in a sense.. those visuals are really the top.

I personally think that trailer looks a lot more smoother in the animations and visuals, it may take a while for Medal of Honor to reclaim that #1 FPS title, and history will probably repeat itself. Call of Duty was born out of Medal of Honor, and well ever since its been number one.. Medal of Honor will retake that title, but when people are going to start saying "copy cod (sorry but it isnt, cod copied medal of honor)" and saying that it looks the same, there is only so much that looks the same, its set in the modern world, and in Afghanistan.. how can you make it look different? its a desert for lords sake.

But yes, not happy with CVG for trying to diss-something that is trying to return to our consoles. And they know that in the end, it will be a big hit in Fall 2010, the fact that they are attacking it now.. by a trailer is quite low. Yet come Fall 2010 they will be like "Omg this game is amazing". Come on CVG.. your standards and ethics are slipping.
KMakawa on 13 Dec '09
SEAN MALSTRON QOUTS AS THE INDUSTRY SHRINKS AND THE Wii TAKES HOLD 3RD PARTYS WILL RETREAT INTO A HARDCORE NICHE AND WIL COPY EACH OTHER AS THEY SCRAMBLE TO THERE OWN DEATHS

THATS EXACTLY WHAT EA ARE DOING HERE THERE BIRDMEN COPYING ACTIVITION AS THEY BIRDMEN COPYED NINTENDO'S WII FIT

THERE DIEING AND THERE IN PANIC MODE

Mirror's Edge?

Anyway yeah, it looks just as plain as MW2. I almost made a comment about how if they really wanted to make the new one original they could set it in ______ but I couldn't think of anywhere interesting that hasn't been done before.
Eyhren on 13 Dec '09
I love how there is always a group of people who go out of their way to stand astride their pedastle to hate what the majority likes, in this case MW2. This is only a piece talking of how the new MOH looks like COD, there really is no need for the minority of MW2 players (who don't like it) to storm the thread telling the rest of us (usually about 500,000 at any one time on Live) how YOU don't like it, we don't care millions bought it and love it, it is not s**t and you really look pathetic for saying so, it may not be to everyones tastes but for those who loved COD4 it just gets better and better (by playing it through, I would say you will have to prestige at least once to get the best out of it.

Heres hoping MOH is a blast too Smile

COUGHcoreCVG... give up glue sniffing (and gaming, for that matter) and go back to school!

This web page describes when to use "there", "their" and "they're". I'd suggest you check it out...

http://www.wikihow.com/Use-There,-Their-and-They're

Also you'll find people might actually read your messages and comment on your thoughts if you made them a little easier to read. Try adding the odd full stop here and there and turning off caps-lock. When your message is written, read through it and check for errors. Nobody expects professionally written articles, but if you're posting a message I assume you expect people to read them. At the moment they're near unreadable.

If English isn't your native language use an internet translator. They're pretty poor, but they'll end up creating easier to read English than what you're currently writing.
Jensonjet on 14 Dec '09
um interesting it does look better than mw2 and besides its medal of honor they were the first ones to ever introduce fps war games u can't say they are riping off mw2 when there are so many games that look the same or is it because you guys make such a big deal out of mw2 that you can't withstand to see a game that looks slightly like mw2 that's my opinion

PS: don't hate, appreciate.

Am I the only person who doesn't really care about MW2? Couldn't be bothered = ODST's firefight is way way better than the waves on MW2 and a lot more fun and challenging - as for this - well, maybe
skabone on 14 Dec '09
That sure looks nice. Hopefully they'll be taking on board comments about modern warfare II games' little problems like game length and lack of dedicated server support and improve.

And I agree with the above. The chair kicking scene was class. I mean, what would you have done? Smile

Funnily enough the Nazis were supported by a majority in Germany at the time as well, and they held a similar view to yours in regards to others voicing their opinions when they didn't mirror their own. Thankfully they didn't win and freedom of speech is still alive, if perhaps bruised, in some places of the world. You don't like reading about others complaining about "MW2"'s faults? Feel free to ignore those posts.

Whether they are truly "pathetic" is debatable, yet if we must pursue that path then how pathetic is it for you to complain about those whom you accuse of being pathetic because of their complaints? I find it particularly delightful how you have taken it upon yourself to superimpose your perosnal opinion as the voice of the millions of others whom bought"MW2". In case you hadn't noticed there are more than just a handful of people whom appear disenchanted with what "MW2" delivered compared to what it promised. I expect you will find those numbers increase as time passes.

"MW2" was certainly a massively hyped game yet as time goes by the cracks in its veneer are increasingly becoming plain to see. I can't honestly say I'm surprised. Glad I didn't waste my money on that blowhard. Smile
The_KFD_Case on 15 Dec '09
The title of this article is irritating,. It's a FPS in a modern setting, so of course it's like MW2. No need to state the obvious, or perhaps they do...

I've never played a Medal of Honour, but the key thing that will keep my eye open for this game is DICE are involved.

I can't tell anything about how this game will be, this is the only trailer.
