Resident Evil 5 producer Masachika Kawata has said that gamers may have to wait up to eight years for Resident Evil 6, assuming the project gets the go ahead.
"We haven't decided whether we're going to make Resident Evil 6 yet," Kawata told The Gadget Show. "But if we do, it could take anywhere up to eight years, but hopefully only four."
Fellow Resi 5 producer Jun Takeuchi said previously that the next instalment in the series will be a full franchise reboot, but we'd be more than a little bit surprised if it took eight years to rework the formula.

8 years? They're having a laugh right? No game even made from scratch needs to be in development for 8 years, 4 or 5 years if you are really pushing it. Hope they do make another Resi but a big overhaul is needed. Just not an 8 year one...
If Resi 5 has made Capcom XX Million, then i bet you any money Resi 6 will be out within 3 years, they wont want to miss out on the profit! Possibly next Gen launch title??

It really depends. It "may" take 8 years, if it's programmed by two guys in a basement. It "may" only take 6 months if they just use the current engine and reskin everything. It "may" take 2 or 3 years for them to think up a decent way to go with the story now.
I don't see how people can say Resi 4 is the best in the franchise then slag off Resi 5- it's virtually the same game. Resi 5 obviously is a lot nicer to look at, but I thought it was just as good if not better than 4. (Leon being a bit rubbish doesn't help).
The co-op part is fine by me- Resi stopped being creepy by the fourth installment and was much more action orientated, I can't speak for the AI though as I've only played through it with the Mrs. We both really enjoyed it.
I do however want them to make a proper SCARY game. Dead Space et all have been barely scary. Atmospheric though.
Off subject - but Sheva is fit. I keep getting killed whilst admiring the way her breast bounce. I think I prefer her to my wife. Can you marry a computer character?
I understand their logic somewhat. The usual development cycle is 2-3 years. If they started work on Resi 6 now, by the time they would have finished, the next gen of consoles will already be out. They wouldn't want that sort of situation and they can't exactly start work now with next gen consoles in mind, so more than likely they'll spend a couple of years taking the series back to the drawing board. If that's the case, I seriously hope they continue to support Resi 5 through DLC. Ideally stuff like more levels for Mercs, new weapons etc, would keep the game alive for a substantial period of time.
8 years means Next-Gen. I think that is what they are getting at here to be honest.
Frankly, I think to be planning for the Next-Gen with a Resi game is a joke. RE6 would sell way more than RE5 and that's a given since 5 did so well and ther would be so many more owners of current gen consoles!

Agreed. At 8 years you start to push dangerously close to pulling a "Duke Nukem' Forever" stunt.
Capcom should take a leaf out of Rockstar's book and overhaul the resi franchise every generation like rockstar does with GTA, that way it would stay fresh and we'd get a steady stream of games.

are you serious, GTA has essevtially been the same since the original. The only things that changed is the graphics and view point. Its always been go to x kill bloke, nick car, finish mission. bells and whistles aren't an overhaul.

I agree about GTA being samey, but I think he was talking about the engine they make for each console generation.
The next one should have a disgruntled Barry Burton as the main baddie, using the virus, he can live his dream of creating a Jill Sandwich, and keep the main cast enthralled with his Shateresque dialogue and his ability to state the obvious.
