Ah yes... the game that almost every official reviewer creamed their pants over and automatically cited as GotY, yet the players themselves basically produced a collective sigh of "meh" for. Modern Warfare 2 might just beat Halo for bost overblown and overrated title.
And the fact that Dragon Age: Origins isn't even on there is cause enough to simply condemn this list as absolute pap.

I am a massive FPS fan, but for me Uncharted 2 must be game of the year! From start to finish its amazing plus it never stops, I remember getting to the train stage and was thinking to myself it must be coming to an end and then another 8 hours later I was still glued to the screen! It was a game i just bought because i was bored of everything else at the time and it turned out to be absolutely quality! As for all those putting Modern Warfare Down I don't understand why, I mean it does everything you want from it perfectly, ok so maybe the single player campaign could have been slightly longer but its way better than any other FPS in fact (excluding Halo 3)! I think people are still sore about the price but personally I have no problem paying Ł50 for a game especially of this quality, you have to appreciate it took just under 2 years to make! Any how you could have picked the game up for Ł26 from Sainsburys on the day of release! I remember paying up to Ł80 for SNES games regularly and if you all remember Majora's Mask was Ł65 when that came out and that was less than 10 years ago!

I couldn't agree more. And how the hell did "DJ Hero" get third place?! Again, especially in light of the mammoth class act that "Dragon Age: Origins" is!
That tastes and opinions differ is one thing, yet I would dearly like to know how TIME concocted this list.

Have you bothered reading some of the more respected reviewers' comments about "Dragon Age: Origins"? Also, were you reading about the PC version or the console versions?

I've got Dragon Age for my 360 and think it's ace. Few issues with the combat but I have enjoyed it far more than KOTOR (though it's not as good as Mass Effect.). As the PC version is considerably better, I think it should certainly be on this list, especially when ODST and MW2 are on it. The two most overrated games this year, (though that is not to say that ODST wasn't good).
You've "read" that Dragon Age is a bit rubbish?? Well keep on readin about it and don't comment on it till you've played it! This list has to be just based on sales. I would have expected MW2 on top anyway, but what the hell is Swarm? Must have sold well in Asia.

In the same way, I'd never trust the review of a game within your average newspaper or 'lifestyle' magazine like Loaded (are the reviews still as bad in that rag? - all I remember were things like 'You get to shoot terrorists, but you might as well go down the pub with your mates and score with some birds' type reviews).
Still, I certainly won't argue if other more trusted sites and magazines want to place Arkham Asylum so highly - that'd take my vote for 2009.
I'd probably switch the top and bottom places. To be honest, MW 2, Halo and DJ Hero wouldn't even get in there for me. It must be a paid off list, that...

I'm playing MW2 at the moment and i'm a bit underwhelmed. Maybe because i'm crap but there's just so much going on i have no idea who's killing me. this is the campaign not multiplayer.
i'd have fifa in there as well. they'd most likely choose madden of course. don't know what real football is
Uncharted 2 is bar far the better game on that list and yet No. 10. I've played a lot of the others and while they are good they are no Uncharted 2. It's unrivalled for graphics, storyline but maybe not gameplay (although that's still damn good). Modern Warfare 2 shouldn't be top. I wish some reviewers actually had the balls to say that it actually isn't that perfect, or good even. I've played better FPSs than that.
I think that list is spot on, cant see any mistakes. was playing Call of duty again last night and yes.... it is the best , borderlands is also champion!!!

The list seems very American and (dare I say it) slightly biased. Halo: ODST above Uncharted 2? In fact, the best game on PS3 this year and probably better than games on other platforms is shown last?? Modern Warfare 2 no.1??? I'd consider at least 4 games out of this list being better than Modern Warfare 2. And while DJ Hero is impressive, its not really what I'd consider to be a game of sorts and certainly isnt better than anything on the list let alone reaching no.3.
The two potential best games on the list are 9th and 10th hmm, well who needs a list to tell me what "I" should like, and ye MW2 is way overrated, quite a disapointment in all honesty! Haven't played Borderlands or ODST to rate them, but a few friends can vouch on them for money well spent so thats good enough for me, and batman was really good! and like alot of you, i've never heard of Geo-Defense Swarm! dont care for super mario, dj band whatever crap
Aye, "Batman: Arkham Asylum" is a brilliantly executed game of the Dark Knight. Best Batman game that I can recall coming across during my lifetime to date, and one that is more than capable of holding its own amongst numerous other heavy weight titles.

The only criticism I can find for it would be the length of the game.
Other than that, it has mood, various gameplay types, brilliant combat, superb storytelling and excellent visuals. If you add into the fact that it was created - from the ground up, unlike most sequels that we see - by a British developer and you can see why it's easily my GOTY. I absolutely love the way that Rocksteady seem to have built the gameplay around the story - with everything being realised beautifully.
The only real competition - in my mind, at least - is Uncharted 2. Obviously, I've never played it myself, but it certainly sounds like a game of true quality.
Still, it doesn't have Batman - so it's Arkham all the way for me.

Yeah, I'd have to say that DJ Hero is a little bit of an odd choice. It obviously got decent reviews, but I don't think there's anything groundbreaking or genre-defining about it.....it's hardly set the world alight in terms of sales either, has it?
I fully expect it to be around the Ł50 mark just after Christmas. Hopefully DJ Hero and RIDE will make Activision think a little more about quality control in 2010.

Yes they are responsible for the content they put up on their site, fact they published it would indicate that they in some way agree with it.

Considering the two best games of the year aren't even on the list (Left 4 Dead 2 and Dragon Age of course) I'd say it's a bit rubbish. Though good shout for Batman.
