DSi XL on top in Japan

Big-screened DSi the most popular platform for the second week running
DSi XL has topped Japanese hardware sales for the second week running, probably proving that more than just old people are interested in the big-screened handheld.

Weekly DSi XL sales fell by a third, but the portable still outsold its nearest rival, the Wii, by over 20,000 units.

PS3 sales fell just short of Wii's, but PSP-3000 managed to outdo the original DSi.

The news was less positive for Sony's most recent hardware release, PSPgo, which moved just over half as many units as the three year old DS Lite.

Meanwhile, Level 5's Professor Layton And The Flute Of Malevolent Destiny entered the weekly software chart at number one.

Weekly hardware sales (previous week), courtesy of Media Create

DSi XL - 67,243 (100,553)
Wii - 46,673 (32,844)
PS3 - 46,558 (34,752)
PSP - 38,839 (32,752)
DSi - 37,021 (32,070)
DS Lite - 7,268 (5,051)
PSPgo - 3,809 (4,574)
Xbox 360 - 3,685 (4,085)
PS2 - 2,057 (2,024)

Check out our DSi XL review ahead of its UK release in the first quarter of 2010.

You have to give it to Nintendo, selling back to the customer redesigned hardware from years back year after year is quite a feat!

They have the balls to do it and end up making a right mint out of it.

they all do it. Look at Sony and it's slim versions. they're always stripped down versions of the current console, But always sell really well.
