Firesky and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment are working on a new Stargate title, dubbed Stargate Resistance.
Design Consultant Chris Klug explains in an interview that "I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that here at Firesky the last year has been a little rough. The fact I'm here talking to you should tell you there's a happy ending in sight.
"We've come through it all with as much excitement and passion for the Stargate franchise as ever (Stargate: Universe, anyone?) and, as you can see from this new website, for now we're focusing our efforts on an exciting new game for you Stargate fans, Stargate:Resistance.
"Combining the talents of all our developers, this 3rd-person action title pits teams of Stargate Command personnel against the System Lords and their minions in exhilarating real-time online battles. This new title is the fruit of what we've all worked on in the last few months."
The game is said to focus on three elements: fluid team-centric play (the classes support one another), fast-paced real-time combat, and maps designed to deliver dynamic hand-to-hand and ranged combat.
I really, really love Stargate. I really love the idea of yet another shooter. Even a generic one set in the SG universe! But this looks sooooooo last gen. Gutted!
Sooo.. have they scrapped the Stargate Online MMO in favour of an online deathmatch game? You know, just use the combat model of the MMO and scrap the rest?
Not that I had any real hope for the MMO. It sounded like a bad WoW clone - grinding for gear, loot and money just doesn't spell "Stargate" to me. (I don't hate WoW. It's just that not all MMO's have to be carbon copies of it. Seriously, developers, try something creative for a change!)
At least it happens in the first SG series, though. Atlantis was meh, and Universe is just insanely boring.
"This new title is the fruit of what we've all worked on in the last few months." A few months in development? That's short, even shorter than those lame Movie-Game tie-ins which are rushed out to cater for the kids. No wonder this looks a little... poor.
