Sony has just confirmed that Minis will indeed be made playable on PS3 via a new firmware update, as rumours previously suggested.
PS3 firmware version 3.15, coming December 17, will allow you to play the currently PSP-only Miniss on the big console. Sony is working to have most of them working on PS3 in time for the firmware launch.
"If you buy a minis game from the 17th it will work on both platforms so if you have a PS3 and a PSP you will only need to buy it once and it will be available to download to your PS3 and your PSP," explains Sony.
"If you have already bought a mini for PSP and want to get it on your PS3 as well, just go to your download list in the Store and download it again for free. The game will then work on your PS3 as well."
The new firmware will also add a new PS3 Data Transfer feature. "This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another," says Sony.
"So if you decide to get a new PS3 you can make sure you don't loose any of your existing content. Content such as games, game save data, and videos downloaded from PlayStation Network can be transferred to the new PS3 system and deleted from the current PS3. Other content, including personal media files (photos, music, videos), can be copied onto the new PS3 and remain on the current PS3 system," it says.
1.Turn both the current PS3 (A) and new PS3 (B) on and connect them with a LAN cable; PS3 (A) should be connected to the TV 2.On the XMB of PS3 (A), scroll to the Settings menu and select [System Settings] and then [Data Transfer Utility] 3.Follow the instructions on-screen and transfer data 4.After transferring the data, follow the instructions on-screen, and then connect PS3 (B) to the TV to view the XMB 5.If content that was downloaded from PlayStation Store was transferred as part of this operation, you must activate PS3 (B) before you can use the data. Log in to the PS3 system as the user who owns the content, and then select (PlayStation Network) > (Account Management) > (System Activation) to activate the system"
The new firmware will also add a new PS3 Data Transfer feature. "This feature enables you to easily transfer all of your saved data from one PS3 to another," says Sony.
About time Godfather, KZ2 and Dragon Age here I come!
I have pinball fantises on PSP mini so I'll try that out with the new firmware. But for me, I like the transfer option as I have two launch PS3's (one Japanese, one british). I only use my Japanese one now to play import PS1 and PS2 games upscalled but now I can stick a 320gig HDD into it and have a copy of my UK PS3 just incase anything ever goes wrong.
Data transfer is a bit late for me - as I recently changed from a 60gb to a slim. Lost quite a few saved games that were copy protected ie tied to the 60gb console and couldn't transfer them over with the backup utility. grr I hope the new data transfer feature will get around this for people.
Wow Minis. At last i can....errr....nope. On side note, never had controller problems, might be too many signals at once in your parts of the house. Controller works fine cause thats all ive got here..no 360s or Wiis to mess up the signal.
If you're having problems with your controllers (not that I have) are you using any Bluetooth devices at the same time? There's only so many frequencies that it uses and so interference could be a problem. Also if a neighbour has a PS3 that could interfere.
Not much Sony can do about this. There's regulations as to the frequencies. The reason we have a max of 7 controllers is because that's the most the can fit on the frequency range. Sorry guys.
