Team17, the boys who only even seem to get out of bed if it involves working on homicidal worms, has confirmed the release of Alien Breed Evolution Episode 1 on XBLA for December 16.
The revival of Team17's Amiga classic Alien Breed will set you back 800 Microsoft Points (around £6), which leads us to hope they don't plan on releasing too many episodes at that price.
"The game features incredible fidelity and attention to detail throughout, awesome audio effects and an engaging single player narrative. The pulsating story takes the game's hero through an intense ride through a stricken craft, onto a mysterious, ageing hulk ship and beyond," according to the official blurb.
"In addition to the explosive single player story, the game also offers a relentless, action packed, two-player co-operative battle mode for online and offline local action with a number of difficulty modes to challenge all skills."
Looking forward to this, have a lot of great memories of playing it round at my mates house on his amiga between Speedball 2 and Sensi Soccer marathons.
Wow, that brings back memories: Alien Breed, Dungeon Master, Speedball, Pinball fantasies, Shadow of the Beast, Sensible Soccer, Silkworm...I'll stop there as it'll just show my age. Yes kids, games used to come in boxes made of Real cardboard!
This had the greatest cheat codes ever on the amiga. Like typing "Iwonderifdollypartonsf***yisasbigashert**s". I mean total genius! Can't remember what it did, but I was at that juvenile age where I found it hilarious... once I'd gone to find out who dolly parton was. *sigh* happy days!
I loved my amiga, two games that always stand out in my memory are Flood, an early Bullfrog title which I loved and Wizball, I think Ocean were responsible for that little gem.
Alien Breed 2 on the Amiga 500 was one of my favourite games ever. So fun and a bit scary too. I used to play it back to back with Speedball 2, another absolute cracker.
The originals were great at the time and I think I finished the first one, can't remember much of the others. I have it for an emulator now. (How I ever finished it I have no idea because I'm crap at it now) Still great, but there is a bit of rose-tintedness going on. Some things are better left in the past.
