The absolutely mental arcade game, After Burner Climax, could be on its way to consoles, if ratings boards around the globe are anything to go by.
Sega's keeping schtum, issuing a swift "no comment" to our over excited enquiries this morning. An Australian ratings listing, however, has it down as a multi platform title with a PG classification, issued on November 23.
According to Gamerbytes, a Korean ratings board is a little more specific, pinning the title down for a PSN release.
After Burner Climax, in case you haven't seen it, is absolutely intense. Playing similarly to the classic AB games, you blast along a linear flight path through gorgeous environments at high speed, blazing rockets at incoming enemies and pulling mental barrel rolls as the hydraulics on the machine shakes you about like a rag doll. It chews through £2 coins though.
Yessss! Come on Sega, you know it makes sense. I played it a while ago and can honestly say It was a thrilling blast! The speed and intensity makes Ace Combat look like yesterdays news...although that is a great game in itself. I think it runs on their modified Lindbergh board (similar power to PS3) so a conversion should be pretty straight forward. Awesome graphics, eye melting speed and exhilirating gameplay...what more could us gamers want eh?
(I wonder if it comes with the hydraulic cabinet??)
I just found a video of the arcade version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDTSApDzy3Y
This would be a definite purchase for me, I liked Outrun on XBLA (never managed the AAA on Heart Attack mode though ) and this looks just like it but with fighter planes. Wonder if Sheffield's own Sumo Digital are doing the conversion.
Yep, a very talented bunch those guys are. However does do the conversion, it should not be too difficuilt due to the similarities in the hardware architecture.
I played Afterburner Climax while on hoilday in Tokyo in 2007. It is a fun game, but i think a lot will be lost if your not strapped into its oversized coin-op cabinet.
Yep been waiting ages for the port of the arcade since it was announced that it was going to consoles back then and still waiting for a port of House of the dead 4! tsk.....
