Modern Warfare 2 download content reports for Duty

IW's Bowling Tweets confirmation
File this under 'tales of the bleeding obvious', but at last we have official confirmation that new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 DLC is set to debut early next year.

We've already seen early evidence that it may indeed be so, with hints of a thermonuclear war mode amongst others, but it's now been fully confirmed by Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling, who tweeted "DLC is planned fir the wonderfully vauge timeframe of Spring. I'll let you know when we know when it'll be done."

Hmm, some work to be done with the laser-guided spellchecker there Rob, but it's nice to know it's on its way. What the DLC may eventually contain, well intelligence is patchy at the moment, but you may of course unleash a salvo of speculation in the comments field below.

Bowling also tweeted earlier of a playlist update live now which adds "Hardcore Ricochet: HQ Pro & adding more maps to the rotation of the Free-for-All playlist". Enjoy...

maybe a patch would be nice for some of the spawn points. Confused

You've got a bloody nerve to berate him on his spellchecking!
FiltyMonkey on 26 Nov '09
How much are we going to be ripped of for then?
leefear1 on 26 Nov '09
i won't be buying this. if it's on the disc it shouldn't cost extra in my opinion.

Dear infinity ward,
Please fix the spawn points in rust. I started a game yesterday and another player was stood at the same point as me. He ran off and before I could ads, he was dead from the guy that spawned right in front of us. It's too small for an 8 player match, with 4 it's ok, but any more and it's just a cluster ****.

Rust is great. As you say I spawned right next to a guy and as soon as we started I stabbed him. I just find that map a right laugh.
Brian Bloodaxe on 26 Nov '09
Could do with some more maps now to be honest, been less than impressed with a good number of the on disk levels. Only played a handful that I really like, never had this problem with the previous game.

I guess you have never seen the 64 player matches on the last pc version then? It makes rust look like an unpopulated desert...

how do you know the stuff on the disc isnt just place holders for planned future stuff?

the software i work on has switches left right and centre for code not yet complete but still in the build.

The DLC is going to contain maps obviously. Those game modes will probably just be switched on server side, just like the new game modes which have been added since release. Rolling Eyes

I think your being pretty harsh there KFD. The DLC is said to hit around Spring next year which could be as much as 4/5 months away (then again it could be 2/3 months away as well Laughing ).

Compare this to recent releases such as Borderlands and Dragon Age which had DLC out within weeks of release and it would seem that others are cashing in or milking more than IW.

Still its cool to knock anything MW2 or IW related at the moment, so no great suprises here.

Infinity ward should take a good look at Naughty Dog and their FREE DLC and then take a good hard look at themselves to see the money grabbing gits they are! How about thanking your fans for supporting you and your games without charging us for the privilege? A.r.s.e monkeys!
liquidgfx on 26 Nov '09
Forgive my language but MW2 is the biggest load of balls I've ever played online. Nothing but campers, whole clans of the tossers playing each game. I threw a grenade in a window today and killed 5 of the bastards who were in one room camping. Plus the care bear packages ruin any balance the game used to have. Every game now is full of noobs with pavlos and AC130. SMG's are useless as every map is large, and everyone uses a over powered assault rifle that kills in one hit.

IW managed to screw up one of the best multiplayer games of the last decade, don't know how but they done it, game is complete garbage now online

Pricing is decided by Activision, Microsoft (and as far as I'm aware Sony too). It literally has nothing to do with IW (again as far as I'm aware). I remember reading about DLC for some game or another and the dev was complaining that they didn't want to charge so much for it but that they had no control over the pricing at all.
MPH on 26 Nov '09
I'm bored of it now too. Will probably go back to it from time to time but I haven't touched it since the Bad Company 2 beta came out. Only 1 map, but boy that game makes MW2 look silly and dated.

To be fair most Assault rifles regularly kill with one hit.

My biggest problem is that I generally play after 10pm and so I get into a lot of games with americans. The lag in this case is quite bad when it comes to bullet hits. I can face someone and fire first, then die and on kill cam it shows that in fact it was them that fired first from their point of view.

Hah! Aye, the DLC for "Dragon Age: Origins" was a bit of a rip off, IMO. I'm willing to let it slide this once because I'm enjoying that game tremendously, but suffice to say that it is not a good start in the relationship between DLC and myself. Wink If the DLC is good enough and long enough in length then I'm okay with paying for it, but these 30 minute mission add-ons and two or three new in-game items just don't cut it at a price of 6.51 Euros considering I got the CE version for 44.95 Euros!

As for knocking "MW2" being "cool", I don't care much about that. I'm knocking Activision/IW and yes, "MW2", because from where I'm standing they have earned every bit of scorn they are receiving from the PC market. No apologies are forthcoming, yet I'll happily hand out free "pick-me-ups" delivered to the facial cheeks of their staff. Twisted Evil

To be honest, there is nothing cool about waiting for a game since it was announced, drooling over each tidbit of info, new screenshot or trailer, only to have final product arrive and be disappointing.

Admittedly, although I was firmly in the 'WTF' camp at first, I have persevered, played through again on Veteran and sunk some time in on Spec Ops, and although I still don't think it's the best game ever, it is decent enough. Online multiplayer isn't as good as it used to be though, and the campaign story really is gold plated guff.
FlimFlam on 26 Nov '09
I give MW2 a go now and again, but still find it no better than average.

The only highlights for me are the special ops missions. In particularly, getting a time of 33 seconds in the pit to get 3 stars.

Other than that, I feel no draw towards either completing the game on Veteran, or wasting my life away online.

The major plus is the fact that I will still get good money for trade-in towards one of the crackers next year. Smile

I too usually play after 10 and have much the same problem which has caused many a pad throwing incident!!! I also agree with the comment made above that the levels seem to be more suited to campers and snipers which is a major prob to a run and gun merchant like myself. Balance of the levels needs some work methinks.

I've got to disagree with you there. I played MW for best part of 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've pretty much adjusted to MW2 and now I'm lovin that too. People will always bemoan change, especially with something that was so popular.

Some of the new maps which have been added recently to the free for all roster are far more cramped than the first lot. Karachi (I think that's what it's called) and Invasion stood out last night as being very claustrophobic. I'm more of a run and gun type than a camper so I'm happy with the new additions.

I also think that the Care packages etc add something different to the gameplay and you can set some great traps for opposing players using them. I'm really into the improved perks system too, especially the Hardline perk. I was forever getting killed when I was just 1 off achieveing chopper support on MW.

Is it free?
Barca Azul on 26 Nov '09
i see they have already designed the GOTY edition cover art for next year. cheeky gits Wink
Tobal on 26 Nov '09
Well, I'm hoping they add the other maps to free-for-all because playing on the same 6 or so maps over and over when a ton of really good ones arn't being used gets old quick. Cod4 with the exception of Shipment(because it was so small)used every map in the game, and so it should. If players didn't want to play on a certain map for whatever reason they would skip it, but the descision should be left down to the players and not the devs. After all, the other maps are accessible in every other game mode...

Also, on the dlc itself, I just want three maps from Cod4 please IW. Overgrown, Downpour and Wet Work(Oh ok, maybe Ambush and Crash as well). That is all.
sonic_uk on 26 Nov '09
Very Happy How hard is it to type properly? Anyway, I hope there's additional story DLC because that's far too open to be left alone. It might be several bits of DLC, the first one for multiplayer as we've all seen, and then maybe a story DLC in a few months.
