Nintendo DS is five years old

Four incarnations, 113 million sold and showing no signs of stopping
How time flies. We carry our DSi everywhere with us, polished and in its protective case like a flashy new toy. Yet, would you believe the DS is five years old?

Nintendo unleashed dual-screen handheld gaming on the world with the US launch of the original fat DS on November 21. That's five years of shouting at virtual dogs on trains, and little kids spitting on screens as they try to blow Yoshi above the clouds.

Since the early days the console has lost weight with two sexy reincarnations, then ate all the pies and returned fatter than ever with the DSi XL, which just released in Japan (see our Nintendo DSi XL review).

Our friends over at GamesRadar have taken a look at the last few Years of DS in their Nintendo DS: The first five years feature, from pictures of the very first publicly shown prototypes right up to its fourth incarnation, and the biggest games in between. Check it out.
