Op Flash: Dragon Rising Mod contest closing

Your last chance to make a level and win a pile of goodies
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is Codemasters' highly-regarded sequel to the seminal Operation Flashpoint, which our chums over at PC Zone called an absolute "stormer" (see the full review here).

What you may not know is that publisher Codemasters had teamed up with chip makers Intel to launch a Mod contest for the game - and with the deadline rapidly approaching, it's your last chance to enter your Op Flash level and win a PC worth over £1500.

So head on over to the Operation Flash Mod Contest Site for full details. The prizes are pretty damn lush with a Limited Edition Dragon Rising desktop PC equipped with Intel Core i7-960 processor, plus runners-up prizes of Intel Core i7-860 processors, and a ton of other Dragon Rising collectable goodies.

Entries will be judged by the Dragon Rising community themselves so it's sure to be a stern test, but make sure your entry reports for duty by November 29, otherwise it's mission fail.

possibly the biggest let down of the year as far as games are concerned. The Mulitplayer is broken, says "Dedicated servers recommended" on the back of the box yet there isnt even Dedicated servers for the Game and CM dont seem to be interested in solving that problem for the thousands of peeved off people on their forums. CM possibly the worst customer support ever. Theres plenty of bugs aswell, but i can deal with bugs, you get them with all game releases. But to play Multiplayer by setting up your own match or joining others, which in some cases its a struggle to get anything lower than a 250 ping(thats on my 20mb connection). You cant join a game thats already started so if people leave its you Vs 8 other people until the end of the timer. First Game Ive installed and uninstalled within 24 hours.

Have to agree with allgrey but to be honest I only hired this as I wasn’t sure. Lucky I loved filmed it as the single player campaign is a mix of great free roaming with the worst controls I have played in a fps since the demo of turok. Then I could only play the first 5 levels as by the end you’re pulling your hair out shooting tiny dots on the horizon before they get near you and BANG! One shot kill! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. On some levels you just die without any clue where the shot came from. One level I got all excited about (sneak in and plant a bomb), if you shot a guard a mile away from the complex in the back of the head, he would die quietly, then 30 seconds later the alarms would go off!!! Did anybody play test this level. I don’t think so. If this had been worked on the cod 4 engine this would be one of the all time great single player campaigns I’m sure. If you want to keep your hair and your sanity, stay well away.

This has got to be the WORST game I can remember in living memory for letting me, its staff and customers down.

The first 3 or 4 hours I played on this were some of the best moments I can remember. traipsing through the forest with my co-op mates, using our infra red sights to pick and point out groups of enemies and paths to traverse - absolutley brilliant.

It all came to a end though the moment I emptied a whole mag into a goon's face only for him to take aim and shoot me dead with a couple of shots. The bullet lag on this game is crippling, i have seen literally hundreds of shots used to take down a group of 3 or 4 enemies, where the hits are registering but nothing happens. aside from the poor offering of multiplayer maps (just 4 on shipment) and the cheek to get us to pay for the DLC (which only added another 4 maps) after CM promising some free DLC is just rubbish.

....but the list goes on.

220km open sandbox warfare - bah - on shipment you could only roam the island with the help of a glitch - the PAID DLC offers a free roam around the island (with no enemies - whats the point?!? - sounds like DOA volleyball) and the fact that we had to wait nearly a month for a title update to patch the fact so that you could find a game (that patch also didn't fix the most basic of faults)

The multiplayer interface is the worst i can think of - it starts you in one mode when selecting server, if you want to change mode and find there's no games running (most of the time), instead of being able to search or refresh it takes you back to the original options and you have to change everything again. Major bore as the online is pretty much dead now.

What really gripes is that the online community has been crying out for weeks for information or word from the DEV's regarding whats being done to sort these massive game breaking faults but there has hardly been any response. If you look at the forums you generally see somebody complaining like buggery only to get their thread closed and IP banned. After the title update failed to address the most basic of problems people were crying out for information - what did they get - information on flashpoint teeshirts you could download for your avatar.,

The people who bought this on day one like me prob knew there were going to be some glitches and bugs but you can live with that - bugs get fixed most of the time eventually - but for weeks people were posting on the forums asking where all the features promised were, why they couldn't roam the island as thought and suggested (and mentioned in a lot of reviews) why the multiplayer was so broken (ie, if you're losing you can quit the game and therefore nobody - NOBODY gets any xp on either side if you're hosting) why it takes upwards of 50 bullets to take down an enemy, why a tank weighing tonnes csn be flipped by a small rock the size of a shoebox - how hiding in grass is useless as more than 200 metres away people can see you as the draw distance dosen't cover grass (really silly) - arrrrrgh - and then the worst of it - to charge for DLC (about 16mb i hear) that only pretty much unlocks stuff already on the disc (such as helicopters that fly over you in the game, and you thought that if you could see it you could use it or maps that are already there in the island but just need spawn points setting up so you can have Mp battles).

The fact that most reviews gave this ok scores shows that nobody was testing the multiplayer (unless system linked) - the single player is ok, very samey and restricted - but the multiplayer is as broken as anything i can remember - its been what 2 months now and the bullet lag is still there, vehicles still handle like chocolate bars in a fire, the small choice of maps is boring and to pay for DLC that is already on the disc, overcharged and very poor is breaking point.

If you've got a PC i hear its much better - the editor prob makes up for that, but on xbox or PS3 (which i hear still are awaiting the first DLC or title update - poor sods) its a case of OPERATION CASHPOINT - DRAGON CRASHING AND BURNING...

yes i've taken it back, got a full refund as well - there'll be plenty of bargain bin copies of this after xmas if they ever fix it

shame on you CM - it will be a long time before i pay full price for another game from you - pre-owned all the way

Dont get me started on this conversation, I'm sick off codemasters with their friggin competitions for mods and maps... Fix the f**king game!
and how dare they try to charge us for map packs on the consoles, they batently nether included the mission editor so could try and rip us all off.
Think its a p**s take when they only include for 4 maps for multiplayer in the 1st place.
Not going to go into all the other issues i can live with bugs, but just wish codemasters would just hold their hands up and say sorry, and try and address some of the issues... if they are; then at least let us the paying public know you are trying to fix the game! Im gonna stop ranting before my blood boils! Embarassed

exactly neon, I have asked several times for an apology on the Forums. Im never agressive, yet my posts seem to get deleted. Like you said if they just held their hands up and apologised, admit they have made huge mistakes then they would have my respect.I bought for the PC, and you will struggle to see alot of people actually playing it online now.

I cant quite understand how CVG gave the game 9.0, but i notice theres alot of advertising of the game on this site, so no doubt theres some sort of deal going on.

Wont be buying another game from CM again

There's loads of good things about this game, its just a shame they weren't actually put in.

ya you guys are right, this game went from most anticipated game of the year to biggest disappointment for me. It's meant to be a sim but you never get wind drag and enemies can get shot abt 10 times (if lucky) before they go down + AI is borderline retarded.

Oh yh I had some sweet glitch too where in the last level at the marine base (or whatever it was) i crouched and teleported to the sea. I had to swim around for 5-10 minutes so I could find a place to get back onto dry land (cleared out the base pretty much so didnt bother reloading) only to run directly into 4 respawning enemies in an area I just cleared and die. This is on the PC by the way so it sucked hard on every platform.
whatever, we still got ARMA.
Sleepaphobic on 25 Nov '09
I hope somone comes up with a mod that:

a) makes the game decent
b) sorts the terrible multiplayer out
c) creates some decent single player missions

What a total waste of a game, it's a good job Arma 2 exists.
