Leading discount website My Voucher Codes UK has said that sales data from its UK retail partners shows Xbox 360 surging ahead of PS3 in the run up to Christmas.
My Voucher Codes UK offers its nine million monthly users online promotional codes or e-vouchers for stores including Game, Gamestation, Currys, Dixons, Comet, Asda, Tesco and lesser know game retailers including Chips, Simply Games, Gameseek and Click A Game. Monthly UK console sales originating from the discount shopping network number in the thousands and possibly tens of thousands, the firm's PR company told us.
Sales of Xbox 360 and PS3 only marginally favoured Microsoft's console in August and September, according to Mark Pearson, founder of My Voucher Codes UK. However, Xbox 360 outsold PS3 by almost 2:1 in October and by nearly 3:1 in November.
"A couple of months ago, little separated the two in terms of units being sold through our site, but November has seen a huge surge by Microsoft's budget friendly console, backed by a stellar PR campaign," he said.
"The PlayStation 3 is undoubtedly a fantastic console, but Brits are still extremely mindful of their bank balance due to the recession, and although they want Christmas 2009 to be memorable, are seemingly more than happy to choose the cheaper option.
"If sales stay at their current rate, the Xbox 360 will outsell Sony's console by three units to one, a marked defeat," Pearson added. "Both companies want their console to be under the Christmas tree this year, but there can only be one winner."
The firm added that sales of Nintendo's Wii "are down 17 per cent on last year... but it's still beating Sony's PS3 in terms of units sold".
Well done cvg, how much did they paid for this article to be published? Anyway looks like they got stock full of 360s and less ps3s (3:1) and want to sell what is less anticipated by most people.
Xbox360 was always going to win. Online play is far superiour to the PS3. I have played both consoles so im no fan boy! LOL Xbox360 has the better package and Sony continue to play catch up.
And as the flamebait is set up I can relax in the knowledge I have both consoles and can now officially sit these arguements out now. I'll just troll around reading the poorer peoples comments.
The 360 is being advertised by a lot of major retailers with 2-3 games an extra controller all for £150 - the ps3 looks incredibly expensive against that especially to the less gaming savvy populous out there.
The Wii and DS are getting a lot of air time too with those Ant and Dec ads, but from discussions I am hearing around and about, not many are really gunning for these this year.
Yeah, to be completely erased by the fact that the 360's getting outsold by like 10-1 weekly in Japan.
The Japanese market is significantly smaller than the US and European counterparts. It's also been shown that even with an awful showing in Japan, the 360 still manages to muster up some of the best suppport from the Japanese developers due to either wads of cash for time JRPG exclusives, or the developers simply wanting to reach the largest western audience to make mega profit. Nice to see 360 doing well but kind shocked the PS3 is so far behind. I thought it'd just started to gain steam. Obviously not...

Don't you lot visit other sites? It's been posted on quite a few.
On-topic, it's not surprising really, MS have started a massive marketing campaign and the public seem to have responded.
We're definitely seeing more PS3 TV ads these days.
I've no idea who's going to sell what over Christmas and I can't say that I'm all that interested, to be honest. I do agree with the earlier poster who mentioned the 360 deals being offered at the moment - it seems that every major retailer has a brilliant deal for the Elite at the moment.

That's probably because they can't give them away.

Yeah, my sister just got an Elite with Forza 3, the GTA IV set and an extra pad for £200. Not sure which retailer, but that's a fantastic deal.

Yeah - I paid £300 and only got Blue Dragon and Moto GP with mine (I traded those two games in straight away).
Mind you, that was when the Elite was first released.
Watching Sky Sports News this morning before I came into work and during one commercial break I saw 3 xbox aderts. One for DJ Hero and music on the 360, one for streaming HD movies and one for watching Sky TV on the 360 and all the adverts finished the commercial with 'Console from £159.99'
This is the reason the 360 probably will outsell the PS3 here in the UK, yes Sony are starting to advertise on TV (they couldnt really have done any less) but MS just seem to do even more.

All this article tells you is that people who purchase Xbox 360's are more likely to use discount vouchers!
And why not? If all I had to do was cut out or print out a voucher from some generic mail ad that would allow me to buy a console with similar performance, with more bundled games and controllers for a noticeably lower price, then it's likely I would do so. Would I deliberately go hunting for such vouchers online if I hadn't heard about them from somewhere else first? Probably not. A fool and his money are soon parted.

voucher cutting. the ultimate disgrace.
youre one of those people who go on holiday for £7.50 with The Sun?
the real fool is the one who skimps on money, buys inferior equipment, and comes out thinking he got a good deal.
i'd put my tv on the ps3 outselling the 360 for xmas, look at the games you can buy right now. uncharted 2 bundle will sell like hot cakes. mums are buying ps3 with LBP for their kids etc... nothing on the 360 is as appealing to mums when thinking what to get their kids. adults now have UC2, KZ2, Infamous, GOW Collection, R&C:ACIT and f**k loads of cross platform games to choose from. A much stronger line up than 360 seals the deal.
Why did Sony not use the US commercials which are so much better than the crap we are getting here. Being in advertising I have to admit the MS commercials are head and shoulders above Sony's.
MS has used good tactics to sell their piece of crap (I have both consoles and one is just a cheap plastic unrefined piece of junk), wonder how much they are paying people like PC World not to mention PS3 in their ads during the Gadget Show. If you were not into gaming you probably won't even know MW2 was available on the PS3, another good use of the Dollar.
I am hugely impressed with what the 360 is still capable of though, but dissapointed that its holding the PS3 back in terms of what that machine can do.

I do not make a habit of buying nor reading "The Sun" or other similar so-called "journalism". I can appreciate why voucher cutting may seem humiliating to many because of what is associated with it. Yet is it not better and smarter to use vouchers and thus have more money to spend on yourself, those you care for and the things you/they desire especially if little or no extra effort is required to acquire the added savings? Why should I pay extra for the same product just so some company can make more profit? They aren't going to look out for what's best for my personal interest; that's up to me, and personally I like to encourage a proactive approach for the growth of my bank accounts' balances.
Perhaps if you were to liken voucher discount usage to looking for retail stores' discount sales, promotions, and comparing prices between stores it might seem more palatable (ex. I bought my Xbox 360 for 40 Euros less by going to a retail electronic store just across the street from what may be the largest electronic retail chain store in Europe; now imagine doing the same with a coupon/voucher). Tell me that wasn't worth the extra walk back and forth between stores. I look for value for my money. I'm not opposed to spending large sums if I perceive them to be justified and I agree that with some items the quality will be reflected in the price, however this is not always the case.

While I agree the holidays are unlikely to be anything other than bad, you can't tell me you've never done that France for a tenner deal to stock up on Christmas booze.
If using a voucher to get a bit of a discount on stuff I was already going to buy from a store I know and trust makes me cheap, then so be it. Enjoy your high prices.

Precisely.
I also think there is a relativity factor at work. If we're dealing with everday items - say que tips for cleaning your ears out - and one pack is 5 or 10 pence more expensive than another pack in a different store then I'm likely just to absorb the difference in pricing. It's not a huge sum although these things do add up over time, but it's not a high enough over all price for that one item to give me serious pause and re-evaluate my options. Paying 159 quid instead of 199 quid for the same item however will likely trigger just that sort of reaction.
Being aware that different prices may exist for a product also plays a large role in the decision making process where I'm concerned. If I know that there isn't likely to be different pricing, or if I simply don't know that other stores are selling the same item at a lower price, then that changes the equation in to one of whether I'm willing to spend the money on the item in question at all.
The main reason for the Xbox 360's impressive sales is its price. Most families would rather pay less for a console for their children so Xbox would be the ideal choice. This Christmas, there will be plenty of 10 year olds waking up to the 18 rated Call of Duty MW2 (because games are for children, isn't that right parents).
Meanwhile, mature hard working intelligent people will opt for PS3 due to its media capabilities, fantastic range of exclusive games (for every Halo 3 there's a Killzone 2 and Resistance 2, for every Gears of War 2, theres a Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2), blu-ray dec, output in tru lossless digital surround and superior online play (free Vidzone, rent and buy movies, free Home if you prefer, massive online battles with 30+ players 60+ players and 250+ players, online browser access to iplayer you tube etc, and its all FREE!!)

The European market share is almost even with the PS3 day on day selling more.
buying something on sale is nothing like cutting out a bit of paper and merging it with pound notes and presenting it to a sales clerk. its for mums and grannies.
these vouchers encourage sales of things they want to shift. i.e. 360's.
the ps3 will sell itself.
worth it in the long run spending the extra usually. once you get humiliated by cutting out a voucher, you convert the savings into a XBL subscription. worth it? no.

And what of those individuals, like myself, whom are intelligent, hard working and generally mature whom aren't particularly interested in BR, are already quite happy with the quality of sound coming out of their surround sound systems, are interested in some of the PS3's exclusives yet are quite content with the Xbox 360 games library and exclusives (add the PC in just for good measure), not interested in online play and other multi media options on a console (I use my PC for that which it is superior at)?

Well, the PS3 didn't sell itself when I was comparing consoles this past summer. Had the PS3 slim been available then at the current pricing it might have made the cut, but even then considering the Xbox 360 pad and the still lower price of the Xbox 360 deal I got I'm not sure it would have been enough to turn the tide in favour of the PS3.
As I see it, there is little humiliation in adopting a sensible financial approach that will help you achieve a possible secure financial future while allowing you to enjoy more of the things you enjoy in life.

People need to understand the truth! The fact that more Fiestas are sold than Ferraris doesn't make the former a better car...
Yep.Price is a big factor when purchasing a new console in a recession. The 360 is a bargain, and lets be honest, most games these days are cross platform. I think even the likes of MGS4 will make it over to Microsoft's machine eventually. My only fear with Microsoft is that they will probably drop the 360 like a brick if they ever announce an Xbox 720(!)...like they did with their first one. Sony are in it for the long run. The PS3 is a long term investment and I believe it has the stronger legs of the two 'hi deffers'. I will be interesting to see what happens in the future though...but I put my money on Sony to become the victor, though Natal does look interesting.
cutting out vouchers is gonna secure your future?!
calm down. doomsday merchant.
youre under the illusion that the ps3 and 360 are the same thing, and that youre getting ps3 quality, at 360 prices with added bonus of a money off voucher.
you will end up getting a ps3. so you are wasting more money than youre saving buying a console thats on the road out, just to upgrade later.
It's a pretty boring morning at work, so it's nice to see chestnuts such as people suggesting that saving money on products is stupid, that only intelligent, hard working and mature people buy PS3s and a brilliantly boneheaded comparison of 360s and PS3s to Fiestas and Ferraris.

You are actually arguing against saving money
You really do refuse to agree with ANYTHING, don't you?
I own both consoles, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 360 led the charge during Christmas and the new year sales. The hardware problems from the old stock has passed, the consoles cheaper & has all the big christmas titles plus it has a fantastic Online service with Last.fm, 1 vs 100, Sky, Twitter, Indie games and facebook.
The new years blockbusters are easily worth the cost of the console, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Bayonetta (the 360 version seems to be superior), Alan Wake, Final Fantasy XIII, Just Cause 2 & Splinter Cell: Conviction. Don't get me wrong, Uncharted 2 was great, but now the PS3 is probably just going to sit there till the next God of War.
seems to me ps3 fanboys and their is quite a few of them about, are using the old chestnut, that using a voucher to save money is a bad thing and that because people arn't as rich as they are, are going for the more wallet friendly 360 bundles and saving abit more on the price.
I didnt know using a voucher to save money, specially when xmas brings bills and people are losing jobs at a great rate, was frankly a crime. It seems PS3 owners are that rich that paying much for a console with NO games that are better than 360 in terms of multiformat titles and with very little exclusive content. Im happy with my 360, i happy its the best place to play fps on consoles, im happy with the live service (its only 11p a day), im happy with my copies of fifa and pes, im happy with halo series, im happy with forza 3, im happy with the 50 odd games i have. I happy with streaming hd movies when i want one, who needs blue-ray when you can stream.
So i have concluded that using a voucher to save money is not a crime, and should be used by all, afterall a few quid saved is better in your pocket, than nothing at the end of the day.
Until then maybe we could chat about something else....
I listened to old-skool Maiden this morning on the way to work. It only takes 10-15 mins but I managed to squeeze in Wrathchild and Murder in the rue morgue. Classics.

360 and ps3 arent the same thing. so you cant expect to pay the same price.
if theres 2 shops next to each other, same product but different price, then i'll choose the cheaper one.
make me buy a paper, cut out a voucher, take it to the shop and (sods law kicks in) present it to a sexy shop assistant; embarrass myself... then it aint worth it.
even if it was an old fart shop assistant, still wouldnt be comfortable with it. but then... my future doesnt depend on it.

It wouldn't make any difference if you paid with a voucher or with cash, the end result would be the same and you still wouldn't get laid.

You seem to be missing the message of what my previous example was illustrating. It's not about the odd purchase here or there; it's about a systematic approach to how and why one buys things. I do not laud the Scrooges out there yet neither do I applaud the practices of people whom are living off their credit cards for long periods of time. Neither is healthy although for different reasons.
Given the often relatively short lifespan of electronics I do not expect my Xbox 360 to last 20+ years (although it might be possible if one takes meticulous care of it). I waited until the reports of the improved Jasper chipset were confirmed and then bought an Xbox 360 for half the price of what the PS3 was going for at that time. I have no regrets and I have not had any problems with my Xbox 360 to date; only one game has frozen at one point and that was when loading a saved game from "Eternal Sonata".
I deem it highly unlikely that I will purchase a PS3 since it would for the most part simply replicate what the Xbox 360 does to cater to my console functions interests (i.e. I don't care much about online ability, BR, etc.). The next time I buy new gaming tech it will likely be either one of ATI's 58XX series GPUs or Nvidia's upcoming Fermi series for my PC.
Haha. SVD jumping in feet first to the flaming fray, picking apart the minutae of the story.
The article is about the net result that one of these accursed "analyst" types has predicted 3:1 sales of 360s vs PS3s.
And you're getting all anal about coupons and social status and the f**king Sun.
Last week they were saying young middle income Xbox owners would all be buying PS3s in addition to their 360, and that this would make the PS3 the "winner" of Christmas.
This is all a load of s**t. Stop typing in these forums. Stop posting this crap. People will buy what people will buy. It's not an issue of the Sony brand vs the Microsoft pricepoint, it's what a an ignorant herd of casual users will randomly buy when they stagger brainlessly into GAME to buy little Johnny's much nagged for Christmas present.
For all we know the Macbook might outsell all the consoles. Who cares until the results are in?

And the award for the worst analogy of the day goes to... PS3t**tboy. A Ferrarri costs over ten times the price of Fiesta and is aimed at a totally different market but you knew that already, didn't you? You just like being a professional bell-end.
@ Stonecold, sorry I've not heard great things about Sky broadband, My Dad signed up a year ago and I'm forever driving over to his house and sorting it out for him. But thats the way it is sometimes, someone else may have no trouble with it so you may find its fine. I decided to plump for Virgins 50mb BB and its damn good but it does cost a bit more.
@ SVD I just wonder why your so worried about what others think, So what if you take a voucher into the store to pay, I really doubt the shop assistant gives a crap and is used to others doing the same. Why you learn to stop worring what others think life becomes easier and more fun!

Thanks for the info, I think . Ive went with the whole package from them, phone line, calls, broadband and TV. Im saving about £14 a month compared to what i was paying BT, fingers crossed I dont have the issues your Dad did or ill be PM'ing you. Glasgow ok for a quick visit ?
I bought a ps3 because i wanted to streamline everything. 1 tv 1 box thats it. no need for a dvd player, no streams of cables(or need for a £60 wifi adapter) or limited to any specific overpriced branded hdds. And in a way i do hope all the parents buy the kids 360s,so i wont have to hear them screaming down their mics over xmas. Not that i have anything against 360s,but alot of my friends have them and are getting ps3 slims for xmas for that very reaso.

Usually such threads are interjected by at least a little common sense, or some good points, but this one seems purely occupied by the Sony Defence Force.
Can I just make a suggestion? If you already own a console, just enjoy it for what it is. Why the f**k does which console selling whatever amount matter to you? Are you a retailer?
Seriously... It's not a war, there are no winners and losers, there are just people who own whichever console they own. You usually find the most level headed people, or the ones who's opinions aren't blinkered idiocy, are those that own both, or all three if you include Wii.
I think my last post was blown out of proportion. What I was trying to say is that a voucher giving website is no means to base an article showing how many Xbox's Vs PS3 have been sold, thats all. Sorry if I upset anyone.
This is going to be a good thread i think . On a side note, ive just signed up to Sky for my broadband anyone got any good / bad stories?
I have had it for over a year, its good, although the router is pretty crappy and you can't change it. but its cheaper than anywhere else (if you have $ky already!)
some of you need to get laid big time if you care so much about sales of a console so much, i mean it does intrest me hence why i checked the article, however im not going to cry and start making pathetic lists....
oh and im poor as f**k and still managed to get a ps3 and xbox...

Oh, and starsail, I think you must have copied and pasted that exact post into about two dozen threads... Seriously mate, get over it.
Not only is it fairly irrelevant as both consols have exclusives, but half the games you have mentioned are either eyes on or haven't even been seen yet, and the other half are multi format, which kind of defeats the object, no?
Oh, and The Agent twice? Tsk tsk, artificial bolstering of the comparison list, desperate times eh?

Here’s a nice list for you:
Plastic surgery An education A social life Confidence Some semblance of fashion Some money Aftershave (I’d recommend D&G, ladies dig it) Interesting banter Friends An interesting personality
These are all things that could help you be a better, more rounded individual, and not the type of person who sits and makes lists of games on the internet that are supposed the make one computer game system look better than the other.
Do you make lists when deciding whether to travel by bus or train? Do you make lists when weighing up the pros and cons of women? Do you make lists when thinking about what confectionery good would please your needs more? Are you angrily tossing yourself off when looking at the list you have written above, furious that people do not agree with you, knowing in you mind that jacking your fat over the others words that you see will make them in time understand your views?
Why don’t you instead write out a shopping list that details the ingredients for a nice Victoria sponge.
I realise your little list was in responses to another, but you seem to make them all the time, I worry for you. Actually I don't, but I thought that might make you like me more. Please love me.

make me buy a paper, cut out a voucher, take it to the shop and (sods law kicks in) present it to a sexy shop assistant; embarrass myself... then it aint worth it.
It wouldn't make any difference if you paid with a voucher or with cash, the end result would be the same and you still wouldn't get laid.

I know My Voucher Codes. I've used it for online codes before.
Thing is, I am self employed in a profession that has taken a pounding during the recession, I have tax bills to pay, rent to pay, bills, council tax etc. Get the idea?
If I lived with mummy and daddy and didn't have to bother about those pesky things like rent and my dinner, perhaps I could forego the vouchers, but as it is, every little bit helps right now.
I have no need to impress the female shop assistant who works in Sainsburys or Game. If I wanted to do that I'd use my platinum card and start acting like a rich c**t living on credit. Although if I did happen to impress her, I'd have my own place to take her back to I suppose.
There's some great bundles coming out soon, one in particular, Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, the new Slim console and a controller or 2, for about £300, which is great value. I don't care about this poor site claiming the 360 is outselling the PS3, because the PS3s sales will pick up over Xmas, and will continue to snowball throughout 2010. I wouldn't pay much attention to this story, to be honest.

Wouldn't be far off if you were...
King of whom or what exactly?
P.S. As for keeping an Xbox 360 in a freezer, I dunno. I find that simply having waited for an updated chipset to be released and then leave the console in a dry, room temperature area with good ventilation to both in and out takes does the job....I reckon that wasn't what you were going after and I agree that the initial rate of RRoD for the Xbox 360 was atrocious. It shouldn't have been released in the state it was in at the time from a consumer advocate perspective.
Well, what ever the figures say, I bought a 360 last year and have been rather disappointed with its exclusives; the way I justify a console (apart from Crackdown and Mass Effect).
Just bought a PS3 two weeks ago and am having an absolute blast with it.
It looks like a Sony coloured Christmas this year.

Someone said ... "The new years blockbusters are easily worth the cost of the console, Mass Effect 2, Bioshock 2, Bayonetta (the 360 version seems to be superior), Alan Wake, Final Fantasy XIII, Just Cause 2 & Splinter Cell: Conviction. Don't get me wrong, Uncharted 2 was great, but now the PS3 is probably just going to sit there till the next God of War." ...
And all PS3 has is Quantum, Heavey Rain, MAG, D Souls (or import now?), White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy Verses, Just Cause 2 (aswell), Final Fantasy XIII (as well), God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, The Agent, Mod Nation Racers, Pixel Dot, Bioshock 2 (as well), Bayonetta (Xbox version maybe just slighty 'better'), Dust, Yakuza (or import now), The Last Guardian.
Line em up ...

I was sure the 360 had more titles than that lined up or is this your own personal want to buy list?
Either way lets wait and see but tbh who really cares that much as long as all systems have good games coming out? I dont care if MSoft/Sony only sell 5 consoles each this Xmas as long as I get the games.
Why did Sony not use the US commercials which are so much better than the crap we are getting here. Being in advertising I have to admit the MS commercials are head and shoulders above Sony's.
I have seen a few PS3 adverts and all they seem to do is big it up as a media hub. No mention of games. Maybe they should start using Sinthetic's copy/paste list
World of difference between buying cheap and getting a bargain. Vii - Cheap sh*t Buying a £150 360 Elite with 2 games, or a PS3 Slim, with 120 gig HDD, and a couple fo games for around £250 - Bargain.
There is nothing wrong with prudance. It's not a negative thing.
Xbox360 was always going to win. Online play is far superiour to the PS3. I have played both consoles so im no fan boy! LOL Xbox360 has the better package and Sony continue to play catch up.
why is everyone arguing over a stupid Prediction? The funny thing is, is how those stats are wrong, it says the xbox has sold more in october and is selling more in november. Now why dont you all just go to VGchartz the official sales charts and you'll all see how wrong it was. here click this link and you'll see that its been fairly even all year , except from the 23rd august where the ps3 has sold more than the xbox every week up till present. so why listen to stupid predictions?

Anyone who thinks that the 360 will outsell the PS3 this Xmas is mental.
Colour me 'mental' then. Regardless of how many fanboys are shagging their chosen consoles the 360 will hammer the PS3 simply down to the price of the bundles and the country in a recession.
The majority of people receiving a 360 or PS3 at xmas aren't the type of people posting on these boards (as we already have them).....
Your average casual gamer will know that the games look the same and parents will find out which console has the most attractive price.
..., the analyst notes, the PlayStation 3 looks poised for a strong holiday, with 21 percent of survey respondents planning to buy the console this Christmas. The number's slightly below the 26 percent planning to buy Wiis, but nearly double the 12 percent planning to buy an Xbox 360. The survey data also shows that 32 percent of PlayStation 2 owners who haven't yet bought a current generation plan to buy a PS3, versus just 9 percent for the Xbox 360. Could Sony's faith in brand loyalty be about to pay off?
From your article: Wii bubble "deflating", says analyst
"We're definitely seeing more PS3 TV ads these days."
Really? I haven't seen any on TV, saw one at the cinema for Uncharted 2, but I've seen about 4-5 360 adds in the last month. I haven'y played on my PS3 since U2, my Xbox on the other hand has had some MW2 abuse and soon some Assasins Creed 2 abuse. Everything about the 360 screams community and fun, the PS3 is cold and emotionless....bit like the Japanese then, seriously Sony better sort out the PS3's dashboard and online play or they are going to loses this gen.

Yeah, I've definitely seen a lot more than there used to be. I've seen the Uncharted 2 ones and the Tekken ones - I must admit, I thought the UC2 ads were a complete waste...they've obviously got an utter gem of an exclusive there and they use rubbish little clips that basically don't show it off, you don't even get a hint of how good it is.
There's certainly still more 360 ads, but MS have had a lot more of a presence on the TV than Sony over the past couple of years.
It seems strange that Sony haven't used TV spots more in this country - their advertising is what made the Playstation brand originally. The only real ads I recall before this were the rather awful LBP ones, which really didn't do the game justice.
Better than having frankincense in your eyes, that s**t stings!!
Are you implying that I'm one of the three kings, dear Monkey?
Wouldn't be far off if you were...
King of whom or what exactly?
P.S. As for keeping an Xbox 360 in a freezer, I dunno. I find that simply having waited for an updated chipset to be released and then leave the console in a dry, room temperature area with good ventilation to both in and out takes does the job....But I know that wasn't what you were going after and I agree that the initial rate of RRoD of the Xbox 360 was atrocious. It shouldn't have been released from a consumer advocate perspective.
Well...certainly not king of the jungle!
You are familiar with a book called the Bible, right?
And here I was hoping for a retelling of "The Jungle Book". Ahh! Baghera, Sherkan (sp?), Balloo, Mowgli...
I am aware of the biblical reference regarding "the three kings" (I rather liked the movie of the same name), however I do not make a habit of spending much time with organized religion. Personal spirituality is another matter.

Technically the chap in the article isn't actually wrong since he was referring specifically to the sales his company had been doing with the PS3 and Xbox 360. Those internal statistics might well favour the Xbox 360 over the PS3 regardless of the overall sales in the UK and/or globally.
Hmmm, I’ve always said the 360 appeals to the more adolescent spotty side of gaming and it’s never more abundantly obvious than right now!
The fact that the PS3 had been pooning the eggbox for the last few months only serves to convince me that this recent surge (if indeed it is not fabrication!) is purely down to parents opting for the cheaper option – sadly unaware that it is a false economy and they will resultingly have their fingers burnt by the frazzled heatsink!
I often wonder is it more than a coincidence that the word Microsoft is an anagram of the phrase “is from cot”...?

Now that's just flamebait through and through, and I suspect you know it. I think it is far more likely the appealing price range of the Xbox 360 that is drawing greater interest for many people. Especially given levels of economic downturn not witnessed since the 70's-80's and the worst stock market performance since the Great Depression some 80 years ago.

yehh the depression is really effecting peoples console choice everyone is screwed in this country its like areas of russia, africa, burma, people dont appreciate how bad it is in this country,im so fat i had to have the side of my wall taken off to go and buy my console, poor me. Think its time to bury this post its a little bit long in the tooth
Xbox number 3 died last night, thankfully it's only 9 months old so swap over is a go.
Although I am feeling a bit depressed about the whole sorry situation and am starting to have a crisis of faith, should I just accept the inevitable that my favourite console is going to break from time to time, and just hope that my warranty always sorts me out, ( I have only ever actually paid for 1 so I ain't financially impaired by this)
Or should I take the store credit and buy a Ps3 slim, I dearly love my 360, it has contributed to some seriously funny online memories and more than a few friends who have transferred into the real world, the games are good, the whole online service in my eyes is worth actually paying money for, I have tried the ps3 and was impressed by the look and feel of the machine, but was genuinely underwhelmed by online play....both machines do have their merits, last Gen I experienced both side of the fence and felt it was a nice way to go, I now am starting to think now may be a good time to get a ps3. Damn you Microsoft for making me feel this way, you have done this to an otherwise happy paying customer...now I am starting to look at the other side...someone please convince me I am simply having a crisis of faith and dont want to get one and be forced to play with tw@'s like SVD

I can appreciate your dilemma. If something broke on me repeatedly and it cost more than a few quid I would likely quickly look to find a replacement solution. That said, since you enjoy your Xbox 360 (I enjoy mine too and haven't had any problems at all so far,) why not stick with it until you no longer have a functioning warranty? I'm presuming that the warranty doesn't continually reset though that might be the case.
Time is on your side as Christmas approaches with what will likely be some good deals - remember that some of the best deals are to be found after the holiday season as stores try to clear out their inventory. Besides, as time marches on the consoles are likely to drop in price further if that is going to happen at all. Of course then you run the risk of buying the PS3 just as a new generation is unleashed, yet then again Sony keeps claiming it has a 10 year plan for the PS3 so you might not be left high and dry.
If you take a moment to reflect inwards, relax and feel out each option which one seems to fit you best? That will likely be your answer in regards to hopefully avoiding buyers' remorse. The financial aspect is the other side of the coin.

Sounds like Ewok is facing a very similar dilemma to the one I had. However, my mind was made up for me by MS refusing to honour my three-year warranty and trying to get me to pay £130 for a replacement - at which point I bought a PS3!
If I'm honest, I did find the community on PS3 to be a bit lacking at first but that was almost two years ago...
One thing I can tell you is that you'll be even more annoyed next time it happens - the RROD that is! I myself lasted three consoles before I realised I wasn't prepared to put up with a ticking time-bomb...
...also, be warned that they can still shaft you with the extended 3-year warranty. For example, my third 360 got the RROD and I resultingly sent it off to be repaired.
A fortnight after receiving my replacement I popped in the Gears of War disc and it just wouldn't read it. Five minutes on Google taught me that this was a common problem and so I called up MS to explain that the replacement console I had been sent was a dud. Imagine my surprise when they said that I was out-of-warranty due to the three year extension only covering the RROD!
I was utterly livid and in retrospect wish I had kicked up more of a fuss - luckily I was able to p/x it for a PS3 at GAME due to most of the games working and them not discovering the problem (oh, sweet payback!)
Ultimately, Microsoft sent me a replacement console which was a dud and then totally and utterly refused to replace it, leaving me completely out of pocket. Had I not been able to palm it off at GAME I would've indeed been royally shafted having paid well over the odds for a launch console and then being left with a lump that wouldn't play most of my favourite games...
The benifit of getting a PS3 aswell is that it paves the way to a fantastic range of exclusive titles it has on budget price, Killzone 2, Wipeput HD, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Warhawk, Valk Chron, MotorStorm PC etc etc as you'd already have played the great Xbox 360 exclusive and you can play them online for free. Both platform's communities are the same really, good eggs and bad eggs, shame about that though but equal overall.
dead rising 2 will be out before this i recken ,both look awesome, looking forward to dr2 a lot ,got fantastic previews! thats martin A by the way not martina cheers M
