Sony's just confirmed that a Gran Turismo 5 time trial demo will be hitting PSN next week, on December 17.
The 'GT Academy 2010 Time Trial' download will help find the top twenty players from each participating country, after which they'll be invited to a final face-off and, eventually, invited to the GT Academy 2010 itself which involves real cars.
"Last year the GT Academy programme unearthed a real driving talent in the form of Lucas Ordenez from Spain, who after winning the GT Academy went on to drive for the Nissan PlayStation race team and take an astonishing second place in the GT4 Championship - all in his first season," explains Sony.
As for the demo: "It will be the first opportunity to get a hands-on taster as to what Yamauchi-san and his Polyphony team have been carefully crafting and polishing at their Tokyo base," says the PlayStation blog.
It'll contains a new GT5 course, and the Nissan 370Z in two guises: "Firstly a blisteringly fast, race-tuned monster and secondly an only slightly less fearsome non-tuned version," says Sony. Here's a GT Academy video:
Bored of waiting. Shout me when it actually comes out. It better be at least three times as good as Forza 3 with this development time or i'll be peeved. Forza 3 has set the bar very high and the years have been cruel to GT but i'm still holding a flicker of hope.
If it rules i'll be the happiest man alive. Except when choosing which to play.
I'd love to have a go in a proper race so I'll probably spend some serious time on the demo. Mind you, at my age, I'm probably too old for a change of career!
I shall certainly give this a spin. Shame we won't be able to see how well the AI behaves around us, but better than nothing. Guess it may have just been a bit of a rush job rather than the actual full-blown demo.
Riiiight! Prologue always was and always has been a test bed for GT5 - nothing more. It was Sony who insisted on Polyphony to release it rather against the wishes of Kazanori Yamauchi. It was flawed, but gave fans a teaser of what the true iteration was/is to be... Make no mistake, when GT5 is unleashed, it will trounce Forza regarding sales and media attention. Maybe its just me, but I always have this feeling that 360 owners (don't start - I own both machines) feel bitter towards the beauty of Polyphony's game. Technically, upon closer inspection, Prologue when running in 1080p does make Forza look like a 'last gen' game...sorry but its true. Let's all wait until GT5 is released and then we'll make proper constructive comparisons against the Forza eh?
Yeah, and more skid marks (no pun), volumetric smoke and a few more particle effects won't go amiss. We have to remember that a game running in 1080p shifting so many textured polygons all over the screen will take a performance hit on every pixel/effect added... Cell chip?? Pah!
I've just read that apparently in GT5 you will be able to "reverse" your race. From the horse's mouth:
When asked about features that could make the game more accessible to new players, Yamauchi dropped an unexpected bombshell: “you can reverse your game”. Assuming we can take this translation literally, Yamauchi must be referring to a “rewind” feature that has recently become popular in other racing series like DiRT, Need for Speed, and Forza. As you may expect, the rewind functionality allows you to “back-up” in time and resume play before you messed up a particular corner. This can come in particularly handy when learning a tough segment of a track, though it is controversial because some players believe having such an option makes it too easy to correct your mistakes.
