Tomb Raider starlet, Lara Croft could have a road named after her... in Derby.
Back in July, Derby city council asked for suggestions for two new roads being built in town. After receiving over a hundred suggestions the council's whittled the candidates down to eight, one of which is 'Lara Croft' Way.
Original Tomb Raider developer, Core Design, was originally based in the city before closing in 2006. So there is actually a link between the two - it's not just a cruel joke on behalf of the residents.
And the best thing about the whole affair is that the winning road names will be voted for by the internet, so unless it's up against Goatse Close, Lara Croft Way is almost definitely going to happen.
Voted. Love the madness. The Internet will pretty much guarantee that the road will be called Lara Croft Way. As for the speed bumps wouldn't they need to be really jagged at the start, eventually rounding off near the end?

Perhaps the entire street starts off quite promising and just gets worse and worse as you go on?

Whoever put this through must be either laughing into their shirt sleeve, or think "Oh God, what have I done!!?". Still, it hilarious how the voting's going.
To be honest what everyone is failing to see is that actually... in derby people are quite proud that it is home to Lara Croft. There is nothing else here to be proud of except for our guiness world record as the town who has had the most amount of guests apear on the Jeremy Kyle show.
While I'm loving the circus show this online voting has created, I think it's generally a mistake to allow internet voting on localised issues. This way any Tom, Dick, or Harry around the globe can cast a vote on a street name which will likely stick around for quite some time to come without ever having to actively participate in or with the consequences. That's not how one encourages informed, responsible voting.
