Buy PSPgo for £150

Christmas price wars see pricey handheld going cheap
HMV has fired its tactical nuke in the Christmas price war by slashing the price of Sony's PSPgo to £150.

That's £75 off the original RRP, which is a pretty good deal on what many may consider to be a fairly overpriced piece of kit anyway. We might even say it brings the handheld down to the price it should've been to begin with.

Don't hang about though, as spotted by MCV, the retailer says on its twitter feed that the deal is a "VERY LIMITED offer", and advises mums and gamers to "be quick".

Chop chop then, go get it on HMV here.

Sorry, but I still think it's an "over-priced piece of kit" at £150. Confused

If they paid me £150 I might take one off their hands.

Have to agree, especially after seeing Curry's offering the 360 deal below.

My lovely Mrs just brought me A PSP Slim and Light as a early christmas gift. I weighed up the options a PSP Go for £225 and no extras. Or PSP Slim and Light with 3 games of my choice and a swanky little bag to keep it all safe for £205. Usurprisingly the later won.

No. The PSPgo is a waste of money and you know it.

A deals a deal, I guess....it's got to be better than paying the RRP on the PSP Go, which is ridiculous at best.

Not bad for anyone that's looking to pick one of these up, certainly the best price I've seen for it.

I think 150 is spot on for a Go and is what it should've launched at. I doubt I'll be upgrading my fatty for a while yet but it's a decent deal for people who want a PSP.

How much are they selling the proper PSP for?

£130 on Amazon - probably cheaper elsewhere. It's a better form factor, reads UMDs and still lets you download games in the same way as the PSPgo, so there's really not much competition.

if you dont have one, thats not a bad price.
However not being able to play umds or japanese games means its essentially pointless.

That's a heck of a deal and definitely puts the PSP Go to shame in terms of value for money. Of course, if you are hell bent on having mobile gaming then the Xbox 360 deal isn't going to matter much.

Just to try and maintain some balance here, where are the people whom usually cry out "M$" when Sony pulls the same greedy-merchant-stunt?

Oh here we go again...Now why the f**k would I fork out £150 for a newer version of what I already own (yes, an older PSP). In this current climate, it is incredible how companies such as Sony can justify releasing a 'slimmer and sexier' version of what I believe is already second best to the DS.
The USP movies were a disaster, the majority of games were Playstation ports, (although a few gems in there mind) but overall, not good enough.
Face facts Sony, the DS is still trouncing your handheld! It annoys me when we, as a consumer have already purchased a product and the next version is rammed down our throats utilising aggressive marketing campaigns. Why?
I admit there are some lovely games on PSP, but they a far too few for most people to take much of an interest in the machine. Perhaps a proper price point may help. Again, it is the Big N with their robust business model that wins...turning a profit selling hardware AND software...although that machine has its fair share of crud...

There were some deals, an Elite with Forza 3 and MW2 and extra pad I saw for £199, that are great when you consider you're getting over £100 worth of games and extra pad! Just go to HUKD and type in 360 elite - loads of bundles come up!

The 360 has never really stayed at it's RRP has it? Odd that. This is a good price though, I don't want a PSPGo, but this is a good reduction and how it should've been priced initially, IMO.
ricflair on 30 Nov '09
Its the modern day atari lynx overpriced and under supported ,shame as the psp has potential that has never been exploited and instead of improving the existing user base and machine they pull the wool over consumers eyes with a pointless reinvention

Luckily I saw the deal and snapped one up.

I love my PSP and even after 4 years, I still play it enough to make buying a PSP Go worth it. I like getting my games as downloads too (PSN, Steam, etc) and would rather pay a small premium to not have to carry a bunch of disks around with me.

If some of you guys hate the PSP so much you've clearly never played Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

I think its a bit harsh to say 'hate the PSP'. I own one while the wife loves her DS. Now don't get me wrong, the Sony machine has a beautiful screen, crystal clear graphics and good sound as well as some beauties (Tekken, Ghosts & Goblins, Power Stone, Virtua Tennis to name a few) but the problem is when they start to release games like a cut down Burnout, or milking the GTA franchise amongst countless other titles that have not sold due to the price and the 'got it on PS2 already'argument.
Praise to Sony for releasing the PSP, but again, they underestimated the hand held market and their main competitor, Nintendo. Technically, the machine is a marvel, but you ask a large demographic of portable gamers (girls/women) these days, and I know which machine they would want on their Christmas list...
Sony needed a Nintendogs or a Brain Training or games of this ilk that would have captured the attention of the mass market, however, it failed to do so...shame.

Doesn't matter too much now. The deal was obivously very very limited and the price is now back at £200 again.
