Attend E3 on Xbox Live?

Virtual booths and playable demos for Live, survey leaks
Not (un)lucky enough to attend the man-filled E3 expo in Los Angeles next year? Well according to an online survey all the games, sounds and huge ankle blisters of the annual event will soon be making their way to Xbox Live (well, maybe not the last one)

The online survery asks you to imagine "that interactive, online versions of E3, BlizzCon, GamesCon, ComicCon and every other major video game convention were made available through Xbox Live."

The questionnaire explains that the "Virtual Video Game Convention Service" would be free on Xbox Live and let players party up with mates and walk around a virtual show floor using their Avatar.

Booths from all the major gaming companies would be included, it says, and participants could check out videos, trailers, developer interviews and even game demos and betas if they were available. Keynote addresses would also be streamed live.

Now, all MS has left to do is find a way to teleport booth babes, free lanyards and copious amounts of beer into your living room and the E3 experience is nearly complete.

Sounds like a great idea in principle, how you actually put it into practise might be slightly more difficult.

My guess is that you would get just as much content as you do now for the coverage of E3 on XBL (they're not going to give you full E3 access - PS3, Wii and all now, are they?). All this will do is let you walk from one bit of content to another - then download demos/watch trailers etc.

Seems a bit pointless to me, but if it's free then go for it.

Ahh, I see. I had grand visions of being in the audience during the Keynotes (Avatar represented, obviously) and being able to go from booth to booth. But MS wouldnt give floorspace to any of their rivals so your idea of how it would work is about right altitude.

Could be a lot of fun. It sounds like an E3 version of PSN's "Home" (but with some interesting stuff to look at) for all the Xbox Live users. Yeah, I'm in. Smile

I guess they may let you watch the (MS) keynote live in the same way you can watch movies and TV in a party-style.

It's a nice addition, but might just be smoke and mirrors - giving us stuff we already get but giving it much more grandeur.

I see your efforts to keep your attention focussed on your work are going well Wink

i agree that it sounds a similar idea to HOME, with actually interesting fun things to do n look at.

So that means it is actually not that hard to put into practice... if Sony can get HOME up n running I'm sure MS can do this.

Would be a cool thing if u ask me

As long as we get access to demos unveiled on the floor at the same time, I'll be satisfied. The usual scenario, is that we only get to play the demos months after the shows have finished.

Looking forward to this.

Actually, this would be just the sort of application for Home that would make it more appealing ... virtual conferences. With Sony's music connections you could even get some great online concerts going on!

I suppose you could do it on the XBox or Wii too, but it just makes more sense in the virtual world of PS3 Home Rolling Eyes

Sounds great, although the main factor for me will be the demos.
Will we get all the demos available to the E3 on-goers or will developers still be scared to show off an unfinished product to the mass public and have us wait months for a touched up version?
And yes, naturally it won't cover PS3 and Wii stuff. lol
vulcanraven01 on 30 Nov '09
Yes please... Live streaming would be nice!.

Internet streaming of events has been a bit iffy with website crashes due to the hits etc.

If they could manage with the large load it would get from lots of people then it would be sweet.

Dizzee Rascal did a show on Home a while back. Not sure how it went as I don't own a PS3, but hopefully they'll do some more shows.
Black Mantis on 30 Nov '09
No way we'll get demos from the show floor. Let's face it, it'll be just the same as this year's XBL E3 coverage with a new presentation style and a bit more content. Meh.
