The quest for Christian unity in the world, "That they may all be one" (John 17:21), inspires the faith and shapes the life of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations has the task of assisting this church in that quest.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is committed to fostering unity between the children of God for the sake of the world. The ELCA Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations is responsible for encouraging the activity of ecumenical life in the ELCA, and for enhancing the public commitments of this church in Lutheran, ecumenical, and interfaith discussions.

We accompany others from Lutheran domestic grass-roots efforts to ecumenical international multilateral dialogues. October 25, 2009 - A Special Event on Reformation Sunday Celebrated the
Full Communion Agreement between the United Methodist Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
The full communion agreement between the United Methodist Church (UMC) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) was celebrated at a special festive worship service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2009, on the campus of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Celebrations will continue in the country through 2010.

 


Georgetown's Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding sponsored "A Common Word" conference
On October 7-8, 2009, world political and religious leaders called for believers to seize upon interfaith commonalities to address global issues of peace and security at a two-day conference on Muslim-Christian relations.
