UPDATE: While we were at Sony's Video Store launch event it retracted the original press release and it now seems the service in fact goes live tomorrow. Sorry for the confusion.
ORIGINAL STORY: SCEE sends word that the PSN video delivery service is available in Europe (that being UK, France, Germany and Spain, with other countries to follow next year).
More than 2,000 movies are available to rent (from €1.99) or buy (from €7.99) in HD or SD, for PS3 and PSP, Sony says.
To celebrate the launch the platform holder's rewarding anyone who registers a PSN account using their new PS3s between November 19 and 30 with a complimentary copy of Transformers to own, it says.
Titles available within the launch window include Angels and Demons, Bruno, Disney/Pixar's Cars, The Dark Knight, Dead Space: Downfall, Star Trek; Terminator Salvation; Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen and many, many more.
Additional content will be added to the Video Store on a weekly basis, says SCEE.
"The launch of the PlayStation Network video delivery service extends our entertainment offering and provides consumers with another way to access their favourite movies, whether at home or on the go," said SCEE boss Andrew House.
"With the choice of content constantly expanding, including full games, bite-size downloadable "minis" games, demos and now movies too, the PlayStation Network is the gateway to a world of entertainment."
€1.99 to rent one movie? I can get three movies for three nights for 99c in other shops. Oh well, can't wait for this... when it does actually come to Ireland ffs

It says "from Ł1.99". Most likely the price for older movies, not new releases like Star Trek.
Says on Eurogamer that it will be available from Thursday, and that prices are FROM 1.99 so I guess some stuff will be different... Time to put some creds on my PSN account!
Sounds like it'll be good value then, although I'll probably wait a while to try it seeing as it will no doubt fail miserably on day 1 with everyone trying to use it at once...
Don't know where CVG get there info but they should use the UK Playstation Blog here: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/11/18/video-store-coming-to-playstation-network/ Where it says its comming TOMMOROW! Also Sony have a videostore website here: http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/11/18/video-store-coming-to-playstation-network/ They have a good deal if you like dan brown films here: http://videostore.uk.playstation.com/offer_listings.html Also it might be worth it to create a new PSN account on your machines becuase they also have this deal going as well: http://videostore.uk.playstation.com/their-war-our-world-your-free-transformers-movie-2.html
The film rental portal on PSN was live when I logged into the store at about 7pm GMT. It let me have a good old look around but then I was disconnected by the PS3. The option to select movies was then then gone when I signed back in (within a couple of minutes). The firmware update has definately not been available today.
I really hope they stay competitive with the prices, I mean 'big' movies on blu-ray cost between Ł15-20 so considering we dont get any packaging, let's hope for the Ł10-15 mark for the newer and popular films.
I just rented out braveheart (in hd) seems nice and quick and download speeds seem good too. I have a few quotes to make (this weather damage is earning me lots of money) So I will be out until early afternoon then I will get to watch it.

Hate to squeeze a big poop out on your bonfire my little friend, but the free Transformers movie is for people who have neven made a PSN account on their PS3 before.
From the T & C:
"5. This promotion is only open to eligible persons who have not, prior to the Promotional Period, created a PSN master or sub-account account on their PS3 system. Only one PSN promotion code is available per eligible person per PS3 system."
