Sony will release PS3 firmware 3.10 on the PlayStation Network today, SCE's network operation director, Eric Lempel has said.
Speaking to US site 1UP, Lempel said the reason for the update's speedy release (it was only revealed last week) is because "it's been in the works for quite some time." An intentional plan to scupper the Xbox 360 Facebook update, perhaps?
"It's never been easy to just integrate new content into the PlayStation Network. We've had this planned for a while now," he said.
3.10 also includes a "revamped" photo category on the XMB and a modified Friends List that lets you choose, among other things, the colour of your PSN ID.
Lempel said that the new update is only "phase one" of Sony's plan to integrate social networking on the PlayStation 3.
Not another rushed update that will brick thousands of consoles.
...seriously, after playing around with all of yesterdays Xbox 360 updates, the one I'd really like to see brought to the PS3 is Last.FM, it was really difficult tearing myself away from it to play some more MW2!
Couldn't give a bag full of dead veng about facebook. Last FM on the other hand would be brilliant. It could go right next to vidzone! Or failing that, spotify.
Spotify on the PS3 would be pretty cool, I'm not really into Last.FM. Nice to see the way Facebook is integrated with the PS3 and the PSN, I was hoping that is what the 360 would do with Facebook and Twitter but it let me down on that front. Nobody should complain about free updates though, I'm just happy that they're giving me the options.
This update just became a thousand times more interesting than just a rubbish facebook update. The catch up TV channels for Spain (3 of them for 6 or so Channels) and other countries are much more interesting and a big selling point, which is strange why it wasn’t mentioned yesterday!! Good work!
As for last FM, its strange the PS3 doesn’t have internet radio when the PSP has had it for over 2 years now!
Slightly off subject, but one thing that the 360 does better than PS3 is the achievement info.
I'd appreciate it if I could see the gamer level next to my friends names. I am level 11, which seems quite high compared to some of my friends.
It would be especially cool if it also showed the number of bronze, silver, gold & platinum trophies too.
I know that you can just click on a friends tag to see the details, but out of sight, out of mind.
I totally agree with that.
The fact that the gamerscore appears next to your Friends name on Live immediately makes you want to compare achievements, but trophies are almost hidden on PSN.
It would be easy just to stick your level and how many Plat, Gold, Silver and Bronzes you have on the card, it's easily big enough.
You're just as bad, what is it with trophies,/achievements that makes you be greedy and buy as many games as possible? Bragging rights? I for one am glad you can't see what other's own and what achievements/trophies they've earned, it helps stop people like you (and Mark) from competing and buying the same games (then again you probably do already) just to get more achievements/trophies than the people on your friends list.
That's why I have no friends (my choice) and my info hidden on the 360 and only a few fiends on psn.

I for one couldn't care less about them and only unlock story driven/sp one's (that's what sort of games I'm into, I have been ever since the Spectrum), I don't go trying to unlock them, even though they add replayabilty (some people like that sort of thing though so each to their own I suppose). A few people buy any old tat just to get them, then brag they have so and so trophies/achievements, which get's annoying.
Instead of Last.fm, why don't Sony release the radio stations that are on the PSP onto the PS3 in another update.
Is Last.fm only for the Gold account? I wouldn't be surprised seeing as you have to have gold to be able to download demo's. I don't wanna pay for gold as I don't bother with mp that much, so it would be a waste.
You can get internet radion on ps3. Its a bit of a mess about but it works. You need to stream it from the pc though. Get the "ps3 media server"(thats its name) then download this http://www.foxhollow.ca/PS3-Radio/ takes a bit to setup, but if your interested there is a guide at http://ps3mediaserver.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3240. it then streams the radio, although bit tricky with vista - you have to always run both programs as admin. You get the ps3 music player videos playing, although you cant use it in game. Hope it helps

Well you obviously do care about them somewhat otherwise you wouldn't have such a strong opinion about them.
I really like trophies and achievements. I like to have a laugh with my mates and compare achievements and trophies and also compare scores on leaderboards etc. There's nothing wrong with that at all.
There's something wrong when people buy games like Hannah Montana, Avatar and Damnation just to get easy achievements though. I've got to be honest though, if they want to do that it's up to them.
I don't understand why it would bother you so much. If you know people who brag about it (sad bastards they may be), just be safe in the knowledge that they really should be doing a bit more with their lives.
So what if some people are trophy whores? i am from time to time. They are awesome and addictive and bring more life to the games I buy.
There are alot of games I have played 3 times over like, Dead space, UC1+2 e.t.c
It would be awesome if they had a trophy card.
Oh and I never buy games just for trophies. I only play the best games and don't only play games for trophies either. With MW2 I doubt I will collect another trophy till next year at least.

You sound like a typical trophy/achievement whore, I bet you buy loads of games jus to get them.
I don't buy any games for trophies, but they are a nice addition to a good game.
I only have one platinum, which is for UC1, so I am certainly no whore.
Games that I have bought this year are:
Killzone 2, Infamous, MW2, SF4, R&C2, Fifa10, UC2, Forza 3 and Dirt 2 - plus a few arcade/psn titles.
I just tend to try and get the most out of my good games, rather than buying all the fillers.

I brought just as many games and I am getting a few more, I brought 15 ps3 games last year. Doesn't mean someone has to much money. I save my money up from bits of change e.t.c.
