Left 4 Dead 2 launch screens

A 'fresh' batch of zombie repulsiveness to coincide with this Friday's release
Valve's brilliant panicky co-op thriller is out this Friday, and to increase the finger-chomping (literally) tension, EA has buried us beneath another large batch of gory screens.

But don't just gorge yourself on its grisly visuals, read our full review here. This sequel packs in melee weapons for a messier experience (chainsaws, axes, frying pans etc), extra customisation (eg weather) and a load more undead horrors and soiled survivors.

Basically, in terms of delivering virtual panic, Left 4 Dead 2 is a master of the art. Enjoy its slaughtery thrills for Xbox 360 and PC.

i felt the same too, maybe its just cos the first one was so different that it was like, wow or how amazin but now we are used to it so the new one doesnt feel as fresh

I have to agree, while its a good game, there's something not quite right about it, i can't put my finger on it.

Maybe because , despite the new maps and weapons, we've basically seen it all before.

I played it all evening yesterday, and after feeling a bit apprehensive after the demo, I must say the game has won me over completely - some of the new levels (the Mall finale, the cornfields and many witches at once, to name a few) are utterly brilliant.

I had a mate over, and we went through as many campaigns as we had time for, and it was completely engulfing - it's brilliantly done, and there's a ton of new unique moments that'll have you going over them again and again with your mates - if you enjoyed the first one, then this is just what the doctor ordered. It's bloody well done.

A few of the levels are a bit less "new and refreshing" but still manage to be enjoyable - more of the same that we know and love - but all the new stuff really shines.

This game deserves, if nothing else, to win the nobel prize for sound design. Put your headphones on, and go thru' Hard Rain - it is simply spectacularly well done, and adds a stunning dimension to the gaming experience. The music, customized for every level, is also spot on, and has you going "oh, well done!" again and again.

I was a bit skeptical, but the new game excels just where the old one did - the worst parts are still on par with the old game - and the best are excellent.

Some of the new melee weapons are a bit silly and out of place, but it's easy to leave them alone.

Hmm, although I'm still going to get this. It looks like they're not going to convince the haters that they couldn't have done this as a string of dlc.

The reviews I've seen say that it's only the melee weapons that really mix things up a bit. All of the melee weapons have the same properties too which seems a bit of a cop out.

It's still going to be a quality game though so I'm going to be a customer.

I am looking forward to this on friday, but many people seem to play the game one way, as in trying too hard to win.

In L4D 1, me and the people I played with used to create our own fun, as in Expert Mode using only Pistols, or Expert Mode with no weapons just melee, sure we never got very far but it was a hell of a lot of fun trying to take down an Expert Tank with only pistols or trying to run from him instead.

L4D 2 with its new weapons and levels opens up more possibilities for me.
