Square and Eidos confirm first proper collaboration

Unnamed third title in development at Thief and Deus Ex studio
Okay, so there's no details and the publisher is remaining tighter-lipped than a botox overdose, but confirmation that Square Enix is working on a "global" game with its Eidos acquisition is still sort of exciting, isn't it?

Speaking at the Montreal International Games Summit, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada told audiences that the first true collaboration with its Eidos studio in Montreal was well underway, which is where the new Thief and Deus Ex sequels are currently being developed.

And that's pretty much all he did say on that front, although he did go on about global markets (or non-existence of) and taking advantage of its global production set-up. Exciting.

So any guesses on what a Square Enix and Eidos collaboration might look like? The world most certainly is their oyster...

So a games company that bought another games company are actually making a game with the new staff?!

No way!

For "global" I read "western". It seems to be squenix's current strategy, what with Leona Lewis and Bon Jovi doing the theme songs to Final Fantasy games, and the summons in FFXIII being turned into autobots or something.

It seems a lot of Japanese Devs/Publishers are looking towards the west to survive, and its probably no wonder with production costs rising sky high on games.

the bigger the market the better and some games are a little too strange to import.

Although I like the look of Yakuza 3 I think it is.

Oh how times change. 10 years ago, Japan was untouchable as a console games dev. I honestly never thought I would hear talk of it being in trouble, let alone looking to the west!
