Suprise, suprise. This is my most anticipated Game of 2010!!
Its been such a long time since I first saw the early videos for Alan Wake (circa 2005) but the time for release is almost upon us now .
I have a feeling that MS are going to put their hype machine behind Alan Wake and hopefully it will be a new IP that delivers on both the quality of the Gameplay but also gives Remedy the return of sales they want as well.
Wow... not sure what to type- that looked beyond awesome. Can't wait for Stonecolds reaction...
My (OMFG!! ) reaction happened on Friday when I first saw those videos, I cant think of a better looking Game on the 360 just now and im actualy struggling to think of a console Game with better lighting effects! All i need now is to see some daylight videos and ill be a happy chappy .
It just goes to show that if a Dev works exclusively with the 360 and doesnt use UE3 then they can make a Game that is up there with the best this Gen on both a graphical and performance level.
Still, its not the graphics that draw me into Alan Wake its the story, atmosphere and Remedy that do that, the fact it looks this Good is just the icing on the cake.
Surprise surprise, its the ONLY exclusive game on the 360 this year so it being the most anticipated means crap all....
Okey dokey .
Alan Wake is not out this year (2009), it is coming out in 2010, you know the same year that the 360 also has ME2, SC:C, Crackdown 2, Fable 3, Halo Reach & Natal (with all its launch Games).
So for me to have Alan Wake as my most anticipated Game on the 360 when there will be numerous big Game releases certainly means a bit more than 'crap all', to me anyway.
Am I the only one who's managed to avoid getting sucked into the hype here? It looks like it could be good, but let's not get ahead of ourselves, it looks like a solid third person-horror shooter, and if it proves to be decent then I'll give it a go, but I'll not be pronouncing it the "best gaem evar!!!" based on a few gameplay snippets.

Each to their own.
Ah, don't let these idiots bother you, Stonecold - Dewin actually thinks he's being humorous with that comment.
I must admit, I've not been keeping too much of a close eye on Alan Wake - but, it's nice to know that it's on it's way. I've no doubts that it'll be a good game. I have to wonder how much it's cost so far - it's been in development for so long, they're surely relying on big sales.
The games I'm most looking forward to in 2010 are Mass Effect 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Red Dead Redemption and Just Cause 2 - the last two I have a really good feeling about. I would absolutely love it (Kevin Keegan style) if Rocksteady announce another Batman for 2010...that'd be the icing on the cake.

The lighting effects do look good, but until you've witnessed Uncharted 2 then you just haven't lived! Venturing through Shambala during a thunderstorm springs immediately to mind.

It makes you wonder how much something like UC2 effects games (that are still in development) like Alan Wake. It's been in development for years, but do Remedy see something like UC2 and think 'we need to up the ante a little here'?

Uncharted 2 has ruined gaming for me at the moment. It'll take something very special to impress me now, especially visually.
It is probably the reason why I haven't fallen for COD MW2, like a lot of other people.
However, Alan Wake does look very good. I particularly like the way the trees sway in the wind.
Still, like StonecoldMC wrote, I'd like to see some action during the day.

I don't think you're alone in not getting into MW2 - I'm surprised by some of the feedback I've read.
Looks absolutely stunning and if the gameplay matches (which I'm sure it will), GOTY material if ever I saw it..nice one Remedy, polish it until it shines like a MF!!

Thats actually a question i put to Markus (the Lead Designer on Alan Wake) on the Official Forums and he said that he hadnt played UC2 but that he would be picking it up at a later date.
"I understand that you are probably very busy right now Markus (working on the Game and all that) but have you had a chance to play Unchartered 2 either on your own or at one of the tradeshows?
I know that Alan Wake is darker than Unchartered both visually and stylistically but they are both third person action kind of Games and there probably will be comparisons made (fair or not) with each other (both being big platform exclusives).
I have been going on about Mr Wake now for years and I am sure it has AAA+ written all over it but if you have played Unchartered (and its as good as everyone says) will you change any of Alan Wake between now and Spring next year?
I appreciate also if you dont want to comment on this, dont want to cause controversy but it would be good to know.

I have seen the reviews but haven't played it myself yet. Or much of any other game for that matter.
Uncharted's release in Finland is tomorrow according to a e-tailer I checked."
Sorry for the long post.
I think that they key point/word is that Alan Wake is 'stylistically' different to UC2.
I was only commenting on the lighting and wouldn't necessarily compare the two games side by side.
Alan Wake will live or die on its gameplay, as did Uncharted 2. Visuals really help to up the atmosphere, but you have to credit ND for spending so much time making sure that each chapter of UC2 was a good solid challenge. It has Bungie (Halo) levels of polish in the way that you can take on the enemies - like it has been play-tested for months.
However, both AW and UC2 are two totally different types games in my eyes. One is an all action, summer blockbuster and the other is a tense, story driven horror game.
Personally, I love both styles and can't wait to try AW. I also have faith in the developers.
It does look good, the it seems like it's the atmosphere and storyline that'll drive the game rather than the gameplay (which currently looks a bit average).
And it also seems like they've concentrated so much on the game world that they've forgot about poor old Alen so much; did anyone else notice in the top two videos how he just runs off the ledges as if unaffected by the drops? It's small things like that which can be improved to make the game much more detailed. And hey if older games (like GTA IV) can do it I'm sure this can.
Note: anyone who thinks I'm nitpicking, think about how often it is in games that the small details that tend to make so much more of an impression on you.

Yep, I agree with you there. Let's hope that the animations get improved in time for release.
I also noticed that Alan Wakes facial features didn't seem to change much either.
I know, I wasnt looking to compare Alan Wake to Unchartered 2, they are 2 different Games that should happily co exist with each other. I was simply wondering if the Remedy Devs had played UC2 and with the review scores coming in (all brilliantly high for the Game) would they change Alan Wake if they felt it needed it?
And for those nitpicking (dont worry ive done it myself ), Remedy have about 4-6 months of constant polish and Markus has said that they they will be polishing re-doing; animations, voice overs and other Gameplay elements.
This is Remedy people, they know what there doing .
It looks simply stunning, IF ( there's still one or two question marks for me) it plays as good as it looks it'll be a crime if it doesn't sell well. Apart from ME2, this has the potential to be the game of next year.
The new footage looked great, the lighting and fog are adding a convincingly eerie atmosphere indeed. However, the tearing and framerate dips were pretty bad, hope they fix them when complete.
The setting kind of suggests a mixture of Cloverfield monster and Blair Witch Project, which is very much my cup of tea; although, I do wish they had a wobbly torch beam, even though for gameplay reasons they may well decide against it.
But, they need to get this out there ASAP or else they're in danger of doing a Duke Nukem; i.e. Uncharted 2 comes out and raises the bar still further, thus they want to match it which in turn delays the game another year in the meantime another game comes out which raises the bar even further etc.
