This Wednesday is Veterans Day, and I hope you'll join me, Gold Star Mother Ruth Stonesifer, and Powerline blogger John Hinderaker for a conference call tonight at 8 pm Eastern/ 5 pm Pacific as we launch The Eleven Eleven Campaign.
The objective of the campaign is simple: to get 11 million Americans to donate $11 to support America's Veterans. We've made giving back to our Vets easy through a national Text to Give Campaign (simply text "VETS" to 85944 to contribute).
Please RSVP to the conference call here:

Dial-in Number: 1-213-289-0500
Participant Access Code: 4670471
The Eleven Eleven Campaign is a project of Beyond Tribute -- a great organization that is making a real difference in the lives of veterans. Contributions are distributed to Beyond Tribute's 11 coalition partners, who specialize in providing direct services and/or advocacy for Veterans of all eras and conflicts.
We're asking bloggers from around the web and across the political spectrum to join us in making this Veteran's Day a day when the blogosphere shows what it can do when it comes together to support our Vets.
So please join the call, and add an Eleven Eleven Campaign Widget to your blog from now through Veteran's Day. You can grab the widget here:

The Eleven Eleven Campaign begins on Veterans Day, 2009 - but it continues every day until our goal is reached of bringing 11 million Americans together to change the way America honors its Veterans.
Please join me and help spread the word about this new campaign to support America's Vets.

You lost me at John Hinderaker. Best of luck to you.
Nope, sorry. America's veterans should not have to depend on charity. It's our government's solemn responsibility to provide the very best care to service members. Whatever they were promised when they enlisted, they MUST get. Our government should not be allowed to bail on contracts made with the people who protect our nation. If taxes have to be raised, so be it.
We had money to buy bombs and bullets when we went into these wars. The cost of after-care should have been figured into the accounting. I just love politicians like John McCain who are veterans themselves and have the gall to turn their backs on the troops when they most need help. I never see him turning his back on defense contractors who need extras. Appropriate the necessary funds and begging won't be necessary. This is the responsibility of the citizenry as a whole, not individual donors.
I agree with you about our government's responsibility to our nation's vets. And I agree that "begging" should not be necessary. We should not have to beg our government, primarily corporate owned politicians, to do the right thing. But until they get their heads out of their collective asses, I'm going to contribute $11.00 to this campaign.
BTW, I'm a Vietnam Vet. How long should I wait for "the citizenry as a whole" to come around to your point of view?
I have been unable to find this charity listed as a top rated veterans charity. Please be careful as vets have many of dubious value. Why not look for one with a proven track record and high ratings?
It's brand new. How could it be listed???
I see it is based out of BeyondTribute.org
Precisely why Eleven Eleven Campaign support goes to Beyond Tribute's coalition members that consist of "11 Charities that specialize in Direct Services and/or Advocacy for Veterans of all eras and conflicts".
Below is the list. The campaign will help change the way America honors its Veterans while supporting organizations that are already making a difference in the lives of veterans and their families. Here's the coalition list: www.eleven-eleven.org/about/
American Gold Star Mothers
Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America
NY State for Vets
Service Women’s Action Network
Student Veterans of America
The Bob Woodruff Foundation
US VETS
Veterans of Modern Warfare
