RoboCop makes comic book return

Dynamite Entertainment has announced the return of RoboCop in a new, ongoing series debuting next year.

Rob Williams (Cla$$war, Star Wars) will pen the series alongside artist Fabiano Neves (Marvel Zombies VS Army of Darkness).

The comic is based on Paul Verhoeven's classic sci-fi film, which saw officer Alex J. Murphy resurrected as the cyborg policeman.

"We're coming in off the back of the first Verhoeven movie and pretty much ignoring everything else that's ever happened Robocop-wise," said Williams.

"Old Detroit's overrun by crime, the country's following it down the tubes due to a 'super recession' and Murphy, Lewis and the rest of the ODPD are fighting a losing battle on the streets. And then things get an awful lot worse."

RoboCop #1 will be released in January.
