EMI sues site for selling Beatles tracks

EMI Records is taking legal action against a US website which has started selling The Beatles' back catalogue.

Download site Bluebeat recently offered fans the chance to buy the band's songs for 15p each or stream them for free.

However, an EMI spokesperson told the BBC today that the label had "not authorised the content to be sold".

The Beatles are one of the few remaining acts who have yet to authorise their music for sale online, despite earlier pleas from Sir Paul McCartney to make the group's tracks available digitally.

Earlier today, it was announced that the Liverpool rockers' remastered back catalogue is to be released on a limited edition apple-shaped USB stick.
