Raising Malawi: Will You Join Me?
I am making a straightforward request. I'm writing to urge you to join me in saving the lives of some of the world's most vulnerable children. And I'm asking you to do it right away.
I should sue John McCain. Three and a half years ago, writing about Net Neutrality, the attempt to guarantee the Internet stays free and open, I said that it was a slam-dunk issue being hampered by a lousy name -- one that evokes a tennis match in Switzerland or basketball players who don't choose sides. And I suggested some alternatives, including The Fast, Downloadable Porn Act and The Internet Freedom Act. Cut to last week, when McCain, the number one recipient of telecom campaign cash in Congress, introduced a bill that would effectively kill Net Neutrality. The name of his bill? The Internet Freedom Act! Paging George Orwell! War is Peace, Ignorance is Strength, and Freedom is... an Internet controlled by AT&T; and Verizon. We can't let that happen. Support Net Neutrality. Let's start by giving it a better name.

There is no such thing as a Republican filibuster. Right now, the only ones who can stand in the way of giving the American people meaningful health care reform are our elected Democratic Senators.
Jonathan Safran Foer's book Eating Animals changed me from a twenty-year vegetarian to a vegan activist.
When it comes to dealing with Wall Street, President Obama seems to have traded in his position as our economy's commander-in-chief for a different role: pundit-in-chief.
Halloween is a breeding ground for a seemingly unending gruesome gore fest. Being a mother I've had to make the hard choices of what scary images my young children digested.
Long before I learned about the risks of climate change, I was fanatical about energy efficiency because I'm cheap. We want to help millions of families seize the same opportunity to cut their utility bills.
Google the meaning of backpfeifengesicht and see if it doesn't evoke Joe Lieberman! What is it about that face?
Shock waves from Judge Jed Rakoff's scathing denunciation of a proposed settlement between the SEC and the Bank of America are still rippling through Wall Street and Washington.
Our nation's financial sector can act as a great force for job creation and production. We should not stand by and let their dimly lit casino bring us all down once again.
Obama didn't have to go to Dover. Bush never went we're told. He could've stayed at the White House and kept some distance from the war. But instead he put himself firmly in front as commander in chief.
Pelosi made a choice about the lifesaving biologic drugs I took when I was in chemotherapy that will cost many fellow breast cancer survivors everything they own, and quite possibly their lives.
Enacted 13 years ago when the idea of same sex marriage was struggling for acceptance, the Defense of Marriage Act is a relic of a more tradition-bound time and culture.
Two ideas are floating around Washington regarding how to handle 'too big to fail' banks, but only one is supported by the Treasury and the White House. Unfortunately, it's the wrong one.
If you eat meat from factories you have not absorbed the reality of factory farms. If you truly understood what happens inside these windowless animal jails and abattoirs, you simply would not eat this meat.
Global warming is one of the greatest challenges of our generation. Addressing this challenge also represents enormous opportunities for economic recovery and long term prosperity.
Communication -- the ability to connect and manipulate -- is perhaps the most interesting part of politics we can observe, and the most frightening.
Well it's about time. Nine months after the inauguration of President Obama, we finally have our Surgeon General. And it couldn't have come soon enough.
For the past 30 years we have minted billionaires, and we have created the most unequal distribution of wealth since 1928-29. This didn't happen by accident.
