The Durango team has announced that it will not be competing in the upcoming GP2 Asia Series. Having taken part in the recent Jerez test, the Italian outfit has elected not to enter due to financial reasons.
After witnessing Davide Valsecchi - who will be driving for iSport in the Abu Dhabi season-opener - leave the squad this season, Durango boss Ivone Pinton revealed to Italy's Italiaracing that, with the driver having deferred to the Barwa Addax team for 2010, a loss of €500,000 (£452,000) is hurting the outfit.
"My heart bleeds for the guys who, having been raised in my team, are now unemployed," Pinton explained, adding that Stefano Coletti's car-destroying shunt in Belgium did not help proceedings. "I will fight until the last minute to be at the start of the Main Series. Meanwhile, we have begun the development of our prototype."
