The Loss of a Hero: Apartheid Critic Helen Suzman Dies at 91
Helen was a role model for me not so much because I was like her, but because I wanted to become more like her; to understand the source of her extraordinary courage.

Speculation about Hillary Clinton's successor in the Senate will soon be moot, but the debate about America's political dynasties is hopefully just starting.
Happy New Year 2009! Because I've always felt it is more amusing to make new year's resolutions that others should follow, today's Friday Talking Poin...
Kevin Federline accused Britney Spears of being one. But who's really a sex addict, and does it matter?
I observed first hand her commitment to peace and justice, when my late husband and I worked closely with the Clintons in an attempt to achieve a Middle East peace. She will be a strong, effective Secretary of State.
"You know he didn't cite a single source in all those things he said. It's just slimy... He's a scumbag... It's part of the national media's attempt to nail Hillary for Obama. It's the most biased press coverage in history."
The Democrats have in some ways, been worse than the Republicans. As a party, they've stood idly by as the Bush Administration has literally ransacked the country.
President Jimmy Carter told a packed audience at the American University of Beirut that President-elect Barack Obama cannot wait until the end of his ...
"The most stressful moment is definitely the moments when he asks me for something and I know before I even start looking for it that I don't have it. But I still give a good search around for it."

The numbers over the past 30 years are not refutable. When it comes to creating jobs and managing the nation's finances, Democratic presidents demonstrate success while Republican presidents show failure.
Inspired by such high-profile cyclists as Obama, Fey and Einstein, I've set to work amassing a comprehensive archive of 100 people we know, love--perhaps even despise--atop the bike.
Blagojevich won't get away with it. But, in trying, he will harm this state, and this country, and our ideals and hopes.
Obama's choice of Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inauguration is dreadful. His explanation is even worse. He shrinks Warren's statements about gay people down to a "disagreement," as if we're talking about ethanol subsidies.

I really hate to see our guys go down, but not as much as I hate for them to be as crooked as [r]epublicans. Hopefully the allegations in this case aren't true, but they usually are.
As a New Mexican, I can only tell you that, if the grand jury and investigating bodies are able to legally prove this particular charge against Richardson, they will have only uncovered the tip of the proverbial iceberg. He is a master at underhanded dealings, and with his past years of success within the political system - political, as in 'not unique to either party '- I can't imagine he ever thought there would be a price to pay. His golden resume, his usually articulate handling of the media, his Latino heritage.....how could he not attain to ever higher political ambitions?
When I first heard about his stepping down as a member of Obama's cabinet, I had three thoughts: 1. Thank you for renewing my hope that the Obama transition team is seriously vetting, 2. I just may have lived long enough to see the light of Truth be shown on a piece of the political swamp, and 3. Poor New Mexico....we bought him twice just like the country bought Bush twice, and we have all paid the price over and over, but we won't be getting rid of Richardson on January 20. Full disclosure: I am a registered Independent and voted for Obama.
"It was yet another of his self-serving embellishments."
When democrats do it, it is called embellishments. When republicans do it it is called lies. Change you can believe in. Or, rather, you better believe that it is not change.
You mean, "When republicans do it for over 20 years, it is called 'lies'".
What a fickle electorate we have...
I lost respect for Richardson when he was so blatantly disloyal to the Clintons. I think in his heart Obama realized what a snake he is too. That's why he was appointed to the post of Commerce Secretary and not Secretary of State.
Hmmm... Do you think Obama is smart enough to have used Richardson to get his support knowing full well that they would use the investigation as an excuse to boot him?
I hope so. It's what Bill Richardson deserves.
