The Corporate Policy Division works across the department, across government and with the executive to develop and implement the department’s strategic policy directions.
Its scope includes:
- helping to develop the long-term policy direction of the portfolio on a range of economic and other issues
- delivering quality planning, reporting, communication and governance services across the department
- servicing the minister, ministerial councils and Parliament in relation to portfolio issues
- managing the department’s internal and external communications including media, strategic marketing, publications and web.

This branch is responsible for liaison and support services for the minister and his offices and the management of parliamentary workflow activities. This includes managing, coordinating and advising on portfolio parliamentary business procedures—e.g. Cabinet and Senate estimates; coordinating briefing and correspondence between the minister’s office and the department; and providing quality assurance, advice and training on correspondence and briefing for departmental staff.

Corporate Communications services the department's external and internal communication needs by managing media and stakeholder liaison, strategic marketing, web and print publishing, graphic design, sponsorship, outreach and internal communications.

The branch provides analysis and advice on cross-portfolio policy issues, as well as whole-of-government policy issues affecting the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. It also undertakes a wide range of portfolio coordination activities, appointments to portfolio boards.

- Import Risk Analysis Appeals Panel (IRAAP).
