ESTC post-interview: XtC

lux, xtc, xtreme chaotix, xul, xy, xyxy

myMYM managed to catch up with recent ESTC Winter champions Xtreme Chaotix members xul and xyxy on their recent success.

xtcThe four days DotA fiasco in Bangkok ended on Sunday and Singapore team, Singapore Xtreme Chaotix (also known as XtC) managed to overcome more fancied teams such as Aeon.sg, Cybertime.International and Kingsurf for first place.

myMYM managed to catch up with recent ESTC Winter champions, Xtreme Chaotix members Singapore Patrick 'Lux' Kwan and Singapore Wai Hong 'xy-' Toh on their recent success in Thailand.  This is what they had to say:

Firstly, congratulations on winning ESTC Winter 2009. How do you feel about winning the tournament?
xy-: We feel really happy and good and glad that we had a good bracket. I guess our little homework did pay off.
Lux: We were lucky that we had a good bracket but we still feel happy over the win.

How do you feel when you realized your fellow Singaporeans, AEON.sg lost their semi-final game?
xy-: We were kinda surprised because we were expecting them to reach the finals since they are the best team in Singapore.

How was the event in terms of organization?
xy-: Overall, the event was pretty well organized. Most of the games started within 15 minutes of the stated time. It was pretty organized such that all the games were shown on bigger lcd screens on the side. However I would prefer a 2-3 days competition rather than 4 days. We only played 1 game each on both day 1 and day 2.

In the live stream broadcasted all over the world, we saw there were a lot of games set up in the convention center. Did you have a chance to play other games such as Showdown EX3?
xy-: We didn't really have much time to play other games because all of our games were in the afternoon. We only went to try out the arcade during the first day when there was more time. But there was this competition game called zone 4 which interests me.

What is Zone 4?
xy-: It is like an aeroplane game at the arcades just that it is played on the computer and there seems to be more interesting addons such as levels.

xyWe at myMYM are not clear on how the tournament progressed since there are nearly zero coverage on the tournament. Rumors are saying that XtC won KS via the 60 minutes rule. Is that true?
xy-: It is not true. Ks forfeited around the 36 minute mark and as the game was reloaded there was only a replay up to around 28 minutes.

In the finals, we saw a series of extremely weird strat picked by both you and your opponent. Why Night Stalker, Spectre and Storm?
xy-: We thought about it together and decided on this because of its good catching and late game power.

Weren't you worried about the 60 minutes rule that applies for all ESTC games? How do you feel about that rule?
xy-: Well, we were prepared for the rule and have come up with measures for it. The 60 minutes rule changes drafting a little because extreme late gamers will have a disadvantage due to the lack of time and faster push drafts have to be used. All 3 heroes were not extreme late gamers and had great mid game control. A spectre with radiance at 30 mins is enough to own the game.

Did any team(s) surprise you in terms of performance?
xy-: It will have to be Cybertime. It is a mixed team and managed to defeat teams such as aeon and axis.

Any thoughts about the local team?
xy-: Thailand teams draft differently from Malaysian and Singaporean teams. A team called BBH kind of interest us by defeating DTrust in the first round and giving Axis a hard fight in the second round.

What about local girls?
xy-: The massage is good. No I'm careful of them as I always look at the throat area first because *ahem ahem* unsure whether they are 100%...
Lux: xyxy loves the girls.

What do you intend to do with the prize money?
xy-: BUFFET
Lux: Treat friends and our supporters to buffet and kimchi for lending me a mouse.

This tournament served as an excellent feeler for the upcoming SMM tournament in November. Can you say you've learnt a bit about your rivals during this tournament?
xy-: It is a good morale booster although we learnt abit about our rivals, our rivals have learned about us.
Lux: There are some teams we will need to look out for too.

Any last shoutouts?
xy-
: Thanks to all our supporters and sponsers and also TO MICHELLE. Ant is single and available!
Wan: me too.. =(
Lux: ANT IS SINGLE AND AVAILABLE FOR MICHELLE AND DON IS ENGAGED IN THAILAND! Special thanks to tZr!

I love these guys. Look at them flush from beating everybody and yet freely admitting there's better teams than them in Asia, in Singapore, even in their local cyber cafe. Give yourself some credit, guys!

Also, gief Balanar replays nao kthx

In a way, it's good they do that. It gives them more motivation to become better and prevents overconfidence as well. But yeah they should give themselves a bit a credit for this one.
