Cool!
Good luck with the new job. I'm pretty mad at Extensis right now. If you had a server version, and it had decent Applescript, I'd dump Portfolio tomorrow for our department's image database. (We have Teams for corporate-wide DAMS.)

Entourage enhancements are THE enterprise enabler
Messaging and IM is the application for enterprise and we are getting closer to Entourage being enterprise-grade in 2008 but we still have some way to go.
I agree with the earlier poster's comments on shared fodlers and calenders :
1. Speed of opening a shared folder or calender is extremely slow. We use a remote exchange server and while this is fine for a single account, when you start adding a number of shared calenders the performance degrades very badly and affects the whole OS speed.
2. ability to view multiple calender so the same screen as we can n Outlook, rather than opening them one by one.
I do hope you all realise the importance of Entourage in the enterprise - it's the only thing holding up the widespread adoption of Mac in our business.
Thanks

Looks the same from either side ...
For contrast: I'm *not* familiar with the Windows version, particularly, I'm much too Mac-centric for that. None the less, I agree that OfficeMac ought to be considerably more like the Windows version. And for basically the same reason: when switching between Office versions, I don't want to get lost. You're never going to make OfficeMac look just deceptively like Apple's iWork, anyway, for some good reasons and some "that's just the way it is" ones.
There are a (very!) few things that are universal Mac standards, and should be followed, but if you can't find it in the Apple Human Interface Guide, then it's not binding, and for this application it should probably conform to Windows. (Some things that definitely should be "Mac-like" include: placement of the "About" command; name, placement, and keyboard shortcut for "Preferences." Keep those Macizations, but most of the command menu layout, toolbars, and the rest ought to conform to the WinOffice standard.)

Question RE: Expression Media for Mac software
I purchased MS Office 2008 for Mac Media Edition. It shipped last month (April) with Expression Media v1.0. The *very first* time I launched this program, it told me that a) there was an update (v2.0), and b) I could buy it for $99.
WHY did you ship this Office 2008 Media Edition with an OLD version of the software? And WHY would I have to *pay* to get the current version? I think this is quite unfair. I haven't even used the software once and it is already the old/previous version. I think that paying an additional $99 just to have the current version is craZy!

Mac BU RESPONSE: Hi Tim, you won’t have to pay the additional $99 to upgrade. Customers who purchased the Office 2008 for Mac Special Media Edition can upgrade to Expression Media 2.0 for free. Learn more here: http://www.microsoft.com/expression/expression-media/Office2008Mac.aspx

Welcome Aboard!
I wanted to be the first to welcome you to the MBU. As an IT Manager for a large design agency in London I hope I am the kind of customer for whom you'll be working. I'm currently testing Office 2008 in preparation for a roll-out across our entire business. Word, Excel and Powerpoint are all excellent, but sadly the application we needed most - Entourage - is still out of step with the needs of the enterprise. With the product as it stands we will have to stick with Outlook 2001 running under Classic, and thats just not good enough in the 21st century. Here's what I need to make Entourage work for our business:
1. An immediate fix for the following Knowledge Base issue which still persists for Windows Mobile and ActiveSync users in Entourage 2008. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926521
2. The ability to create/modify/delete Exchange Server-Side rules.
3. Make Tasks and Notes sync with Exchange.
4. The ability to use the Exchange/OWA junk mail filter rules in Entourage.
5. Offer a non-syncing/non-cached version of Entourage (i.e. no local database) for Exchange accounts.
6. Improve the performance of shared calendars/mailboxes - opening ANY shared calendar takes MINUTES in Entourage, it takes seconds in Outlook 2001.
7. Allow password protected Office Identities.
If you could make the top 3 of these things happen in the next 6 months it would be amazing. In fact as an Enterprise user I would bay £300-£400 per license FOR ENTOURAGE ALONE if it only did the things that Outlook 2001 can do!
I know I speak for a massive chunk of the mac-centric corporate and eduction users when I say that we just want a REAL groupware tool from the MBU, and not just Outlook Express on speed - which is basically what Entourage is...
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.

Also, Sharepoint and IRM integration. That's critical for Mac Users in the enterprise. WIthout it, WinOffice is the only option, and if I have to use that, then why bother with Office:Mac at all?

Office for Mac = Office for Windows
Like many others, I use a PC at work and my Mac at home for personal and hobby use. Although I appreciate the creativity that the MacBU puts into each release of Office for Mac, here's what I really want:
I WANT THE OFFICE APPLICATIONS ON MY MAC TO RUN JUST AS WELL AS THEY DO ON MY PC. PERIOD.
I don't like to re-learn software that I already know, so while adding new menus and other options to Office for Mac might be fun for some, I want cross-platform consistency. I also hate floating menu and tool bars - I actually like when they are all contained in the same window on a PC.
If you want to get creative with Office for Mac, that might work for one group of customers. However, I would love to see you have a toggle switch in preferences that says "Make it look like you're using office on a PC" and then all Office Apps on the Mac would look the same as on a PC.
Right now, I actually think running Office 2007 for Windows through Parallel's desktop is faster and easier (i.e. I don't have to re-learn where menu options are) than running Office for Mac natively on my MacBookPro.
Thanks for considering!

Office Whoas
Welcome to the Mac side of things. I hope you can address the issues that Gary Eary brought up.
The number one most frustrating thing about Office is the lack of feature parity between Entourage on the Mac and Outlook on the PC. This needs serious attention. (with the exception of the scripting system used in Outlook, too many viruses use that, so leave it out!) After that it would be nice to get complete compatibility between Entourage and Sync Services. Right now all of the information in Entourage doesn't sync properly with the Sync Services so that iCal and Address Book can show the same information that was in Entourage. This is a really big issue for business users and home users that need to have their contacts and calendar synced with their various computers and mobile devices; especially with the advent of the iPhone!
The number two most frustrating thing is creating a document on the Mac and it not looking proper on Windows. Or getting a document or spreadsheet from a Windows version of Office and the macros can't function. Or worse you can't even open the file! This would be my second vote for attention. I don't care if the Mac version of Office looks different from the PC version, I can learn the differences faster than programs can be recoded. But having work frustrated because documents can't be exchanged seamlessly between computers is very bad for business.
Thank you for your consideration,
Brian

Entourage 2008 Sync issues with Exchange server
William M. Smith has proposed lots of solutions to this issue but all of them essentially limit the usefulness of Entourage 2008 or are hard to implement in an enterprise environment. His solutions to do not reflect the reality of how users need to use their email.
Please encourage the team to make Entourage 2008 as capable as Outlook 2003 when it comes to supporting power users in the enterprise environment. The reality is users accrue thousands of new emails and have entourage databases that are 3GB in size.

Development Cycles...
How about a little getting down and dirty and fixing some problems for a change...?
EM2 carries a lot of excess baggage from the IMP3 days:
No queries...
Cannot set measurement units on a "per database" basis; images for web use in pixels - images for prints in inches/cm... not too strange a concept but seemingly foreign to EM2... Not to worry too much, PS CS3 still cannot do the same thing with multiple photos...
Keyboard shortcuts anyone...?
Contact sheets are pathetic... Lightroom is ALL OVER EM2 as far as printing options go...
How about bringing back scratch disks?
Anyone interested in making a whole new set of HTML gallery templates...? Hint hint
There is plenty more where that came from...
